I know just about everyone here has taken part in the night live, I know I have. Usually I go for a TG in their late 20's to early 30's, just my prefered age range. But every once in a while you seem to meet a girl that isn't in it to just screw you out of some money (pun intended), she's just working hard to make a living.
On my last trip I was just chilling at a beer bar in the late afternoon and was chatting to a few of the girls working there (it was still fairly quiet). One of the girls had caught my attention, not in a "I want to take her home", but in a "she seems like a real sweetheart" kind of way.
We talked for a fair while and she told me that she was 20 and working only as a waitress, she needed the money to help her finish her studies. I asked her if she ever went with customers and she said no, the ony money she gets is from her wage and tips, which I believe isn't really that much. This was also confirmed by another girl at the bar. Given that I walked past the place every evening, stopping some days for a drink and she was always there serving customers, I tend to belive it.
I had a great afternoon just talking with her, she was a real sweetie with a heart of gold. As I was ready to leave and it was my last day there, I asked her if they share the tips beween all the girls. She said if the tip was given as part of the check-bin, it would be shared, but if the cusomers gave the tip directly to the girl, the girl could keep it.
She had been off to serve someone and as she came back to where I was sitting on the bar, I was getting up telling her I had to go. She shook my hand and said goodbye and as she did that I handed her a rolled up 1000B note and said it was a tip for her only. She looked at the note, not sure if I was going to expect anything for it, but I said it was to help with her studies.
The wai and big hug (which I have never seen her do) I got I won't forget for a while, specially the way her eyes had lit up and the smile.
I hope she gets to finish her studies and doesn't start going with customers.

Possibly some members will disagree, but I would support your action and have done the same thing myself with the right BG.
I think the average BG will get basic 3,000-4,000 baht a month, so a 1,000 baht tip will make quite a difference.

She had such an innocence and genuine charm about her, I felt that just maybe I could show her that her hard work would be rewarded and that she wouldn't just be used.
And she was working hard, on more than one night when it was busy did I see her literary running from one table to the next serving people.

Good for you brother TT. You did indeed perform a good deed  . And I don't think you have to worry about starting her down the wrong path. I know you probably thought that by her seeing how easy it is to get us foreigners to part with our money, especially when she probably feels that she didn't do anything to earn it, that she might be tempted to try her hand at getting some of that money by providing other services. I wouldn't be too worried about her. She sounds like someone who knows her own mind and has already made her decisions about what she is and isn't willing to do for money. Another rare gem found in LOS. They're out there and appparently not as hard to find as they use to be. Peace

I agree with part of cmore's statement; the tip in itself is an eye opener, though a good deed. There are too many snakes lurking and openly out there to tempt "innocent" girls!

I am curious what bar or bar area were you in? And FTR, I agree it's a nice, relatively inexpensive gesture, and I've done the same.
Also, for everyone else out there, tips on the tray get split, tips directly to the girl are hers. If I like a waitress I'll usually tip her a nice amount directly and still a small amount for the house to split. This keeps her happy and her colleagues from getting jealous.
