I have been going to LOS since 1996 and thought I knew it all. I have been with a Issan girl for over a year. I live in USA, but travel to LOS frequently. She is 22 and I am 39. She worked in the bar scene for six months, but has worked regular jobs for four years and is going to the university.
I send her 5000b a month and paid a land debt of 40000b debt for her father. She has asked for more money for emergencies and sometimes I gave it to her and now I am not. Now she has an attitude.
We had both agreed that if I marry her, I will buy her family land (50000b) and build a house (200,000). She has been giving me an attitude for the past two weeks and I told her I would not marry her if she keeps acting spoiled. This makes her angrier and blames me. She wants me to buy the land as a token for engagment. I said I will AFTER I see her again and not before and that I willl only build house WHEN we get married. She hung up on me.
Am I being too cheap or I am just preventing problems?

Sounds like you are a bit of a cheap charlie to me - my (farang) wife cost me Bt40000 a day for everyday we were married and she is still complaining.....
Money is very important in a Thai marriage. If you cant come to an agreement at that level there is little point in getting married.

It would be different guys if he lived here. Who knows what the heck they would do with the money? These emergencies could be having to pay for her Thai BF to get out of jail, or to buy him some gold?
I say dump the biatch! Let her find a new "sugar daddy." When my wife cops an attitude about money, I tell her to go find a Thai guy that makes as much as I do and willing to father her 2 children (1 being mine). That shuts her up real quick. 
Paying money before marrying her, NOT a good idea bro.

You mentioned something that I have a tough time understanding- these girls come from modest (at best) backgrounds but where do they learn to act like freakin' princesses in no time flat?? I have received a dose of the attitude in the past and it took me awhile to remember something - hey, I'm paying the bills here. How about a little gratitude?!
I feel bad for you but I agree, do not buy the land and house until after the deal is sealed. And for that matter, this may be the little wake up call to say she's not the perfect little angel you thought.
IMO, when you see her, buy the land IF things are ok and IF you remain committed to marrying her. Wait again for the rest of the 'dowry'. There may be more "essential items" added to the dowry yet and you should see how this develops first.

Thai women often equate money with security. Even though I had been with my last Thai girlfriend for almost 3 years and had generously supported her, when I refused to give her 400,000 baht for house, she took that as a sign I didn't care and left me cold. I talked to her afterwards and she told me that even though she loved me, her future was more important and if I wasn't going to provide enough, she would find someone that would.
My advice is that if you are getting these kind of ultimatums, you either give in to keep her, or let her go. There are lots of fish in the sea.

She cannot marry you because she is already legally married to a Thai man who she wants to buy this land for.
and then you'll be out of the picture and she and her TBF will be living it up while looking for another sponsor to support the construction of a house on said land.

Mine is still around going on 5 yrs, bit like bluff poker really
but its true so take it or leave it honey is my attitude.
Funny thing is when I am broke or have cash flow probs
she will dip into her pocket funny how much money suddenly appears.
It ;s to do with power, remember thai women get the
salary from the husbands they control it they then give hubby pocket money, hubby goes to the massage parlour. TIT. They all think we are loaded so they want some of it mine still looks at my gross salary and wonders what I do with it you are farang you are rich.
If the lady is genuine and sees you do not have she will stay, but mind you not for long time I see that a lot as well, I suppose it all just depends on the girl but filling an empty hole to keep someone around is that love, marriage is give and take, meaning you can say no sometimes but not all the time.
