My 2 baht: A kid is not a commodity. Trading time for him/her is not giving him/her the best opportunity in the world. No issue on location, east or west. Have a kid, stay with the woman and make it work. Doesn't mean you can't have your own life, but a kid needs a mother and father together; family. Best chance he or she will grow up with a good perspective on life, balanced values and the ability to contribute to society. Sounds like BS, but I did offer 2 baht.

Awesome, well that is only the case if the child is part of your family, not a holiday play thing. Seems you wanted a child as an experiment, she wanted a half thai half falang kid for the good looks and light skin. Not the right reasons for having a baby. I hope I am wrong, for the childs sake not yours. How old is the child now ?? Anyway, having a baby here and in fact anywhere, is awesome, if your child is young and you have a decent heart, you will realise that as it gets older and you will want to spend all your time with them. Some guys do not feel the same about their kids as I do and a few other dads I know here, I guess not everyone is the same. If you do not want to spend ALL your time and ALL your life devoted to your kids, then why did you have one in the first place. Your focus on your life should change dramatically once you have a child. Everything you thought you wanted for yourself before, for your life, becomes obsolete. Even the most passionate thing you may have wanted will not matter anymore, simply because you want the best for your child and to spend the most amount of time possible in your life with your child. I liked it so much, I got another one on the way !! Anyway, like I said, everyone is different, but I think from your post, you need to ask yourself why you really did this. Please correct me if I am wrong, I hope I am.

But once you've answered said question, its not like the child is going to magically go away. You brought this child into this world, he/she didn't ask to come here. Its not a toy you can discard or just put in a toy box when you're tired of playing with him. Whatever the differences you and the mother have, I hope you can put those aside and come together and do what's best for the child. "I" no longer exists. It's about doing what you have to do to give this child a fightiing chance in this world. You've been blessed with fatherhood, I only that you will be able to see and understand that. Best of luck!

Also remember the words of the great Rodney Dangerfield, "The best thing about kids is making them."

I chose to raise my boy here because I had no family left in Oz basically except 1 brother and I was bored with living in Oz. So all his family were mostly here in Los and my missus had been in Oz for nearly 5 years, so it was a timely move. He now speaks Thai and english easily and taking care of kids here is so easy with maids and nannies etc. But it does have its down sides that make you worry a little, such as health and education. International schools here of any calibre are asking 200k baht a year for the younger years and 500k for older ones. A friend of mine here told me to budget 500k a year on average for schooling, so its not cheap, but could also be more expensive once I start to look into it more as he gets older.
