Today is Thanksgiving. I am sitting in my home office and playing with my computers. I have CNN on. Tom Mintier just reported that there was a treat in Phuket. He mentioned the Banana Disco and another place I did not catch. He was with the govenor of the area and they visited a few clubs (you could see the girls dancing in the background)and conducted some interviews. The governor assured CNN that all security measures were being taken by the Thai government.
They showed bar patrons being searched for weapons etc. This report is not good for tourism. I know some of you guys are there. Do you know anything?

so when tourism goes down, that should lower the prices of the girls and things in general for us residents??  ;-)

Tom Mintier is back? Too bad, he's a dweeb.

The Phuket governor is obviously just strying to grad some airtime and mess with the particular disco (probably squeezing them for $$$). Typical, he's an asshole.

off topic quite a bit.

after the bombing's in Mombassa this week,it has now emerged that the Australian government posted on their website that Kenya was a likely target for terrorists and warned their nationals to be vigil.
this was posted on Nov 7.

the same info was available to the british government and again they refused to give the brits any warning.
what is wrong with the british foreign office?.

sitting here listening to an interview on the BBC with a Moslem Cleric.
he has been asked many questions about NY,Bali and Mombassa.
his attitude was that he was sorry moslem's died, but the jew's who perished were no loss.
his view is that the western world deserved the carnage, any terrorist group is not to blame.

if America was not a superpower, all this would not have happened.
all America's fault.

why are the BBC giving people like this airtime?.
in many other countries, people like this would be arrested and held in jail.
but in the UK,they are allowed to go free and then voice their opinion on national radio.

MrJoe
It's called Democracy Nokna. Together your country and mine (with some help from the French) invented it. Don't you think it should be respected in its place of birth?

Plus it's good for TV ratings.

Personally, I'd like to put a bullet in the cranium of anyone that incites terrorism and blames the US for it. But I believe in democracy.

That's my short response to your post. You're lucky I didn't give the long one. Ý Ý Ý

"Happy with a long response."?

You'd be the only one I bet. I'll just say that if the freedom of speech applies to me and you, it must apply to all who reside in our countries. It is not as sacred and unbridled a right in the UK as it is in the US but it is nonetheless a foundation of democracy and universally recognized as such.

If the populace is not free to express unpopular sentiments, they are not and will not be free.

i think i may have heard the same radio report that nikna heard.

i agree that democracy and freedom of speech is important.
but i agree with Nokna, the person certained was saying that he did'nt give a #### what happened to the locals.

i come from europe and have seen various 'outrages'
why are the local media giving these people their say?

US people are lucky enough not to have sustained 'outrages' in the past
americans are quick to say we must all have our say,but they just don't understand.

MrJoe
The principle is a basic one. A civil right must be universal to have any validity. What about when the time comes that you don't like the status qou and someone says you can't express your veiws.

I'm not going to get into anything as ridiculous or hurtful as trying to compete with who has suffered the most. Throughout history people all over the world have been victims of evil acts. We have been fortunate but we did have our own domestic terrorism where more than 200 peoplee were killed in Oklahoma. Americans did not suggest that people who shared McvVeigh's veiws should have their rights negated or abridged. I lost freinds in a terrorist attack in Lebannon. If people who supported those terrorists spoke up, I would not ask for their rights to be curtailed.

And to suggest that 9/11 wasn't an outrage, is downright offensive. It affected me very badly. But when some asshole says that the US deserved it or something similar -- I would smack him in the mouth (and face criminal charges) but I wouldn't ask for his rights to be denied. As a matter of fact, even the guys who are responsible I want their rights to be protected.

Rights are meaningless if they are arbitrary. They must be sacrosanct. I believe in and cherish democracy. And I have fought for it -- not just for me, but for anyone who lives under its protection.

I have to agree strongly with MrJoe, and frankly I know what he would *really* like to say (he is exercising very good restraint).

"if America was not a superpower, all this would not have happened.
all America's fault. "

Nokna, that is a stupid comment.  I have enjoyed your posts up until now.  Now I am starting to think you are an ignorant f_ck.
