Well, no doubt that the SARS is hurting the economy very badly, but there is also a very positive side to be considered: now you can really enjoy a great time in Thailand being sure to pay a very little and have the most out of our bucks!
As Italian guy, I cannot deny that the current promotion by Thai Airways, 370 euros Rome/Bangkok/Rome including also a domestic flight of my choice is a chance not to be missed! Hotels are offering such a low rates......and also the sex industry is dramaticaly lowering the prices....not to mention the huge number of TG free in these days of no clients......ehehehe
What a better time to go to Thailand!

You might think this is a joke, but I think that it just goes to show the lack of your character and respect for the tg's and for the Thai culture.
I'm sure you are not alone in your thoughts which is pretty sad.
So, SARS is good so that you can take advantage of the Thai people. İYou can pay them even less then they are already getting so a service that in any other country might cost your 4 times the amount. Talk about taking advantage of a person.
You might think this is one big joke or an adult disneyland, but remember that this is their lives you are messing around with.

As a cheap charley, I agree with ABC. The only people I will bargin with is the hotels. I am more then glad to pay the BG my usual rates. BG for the most part are good people and work to feed their kids.

My buddy in crime is in Thailand/Myanmar right now and is staying at the Nana. He said despite the season and the SARS stuff, the ladies are charging their usual rates -- he normally knocks off a late night S/T from the parade in the Nana lobby and usually pays about 700 to 1000 baht for that. He said the freelancers in the parking lot were insisiting on 1000 baht. Bottom line, they have to pay their bills too.
