Being in the wholesale food business we have already changed to buying poultry from Brazil, as we had heard rumours of problems and could not get any info (that was one month ago), our change was fortunate it seems, but unfortunately we could not take any chances without info which was not forthcoming.

Source BBC News (Headline)

"Thailand has confirmed an outbreak of bird flu in its poultry and said two people had caught the disease, leading the government to halt chicken exports.
Public Health Minister Sudarat Keyuraphun said two boys who touched carcasses of infected poultry had tested positive on Friday"

This spells bad news for Thailands poultry industry and poses a potential increased risk to humans.

Don't mean tto be cynical, but presumabllly the Baht against Western currencies will fall which makes it cheaper to go there and the number of TG's per brother should go up as tourist flow declines?

Liftoff,

I doubt tourist flow will decline because of avian flu. Flow will more likely decline if the midnight bar closings come into force. As for the foreign exchange benefitting westerners I doubt this too as Chicked exports are only a small fraction of Thai exports. Tinned fish, rice, prawns and rubber amongst others are way ahead of poultry exports. Refecting back on last years Sars crisis, the Baht changed very little against the euro, GBP or US Dollar.

Thailand is the fifth largest chicken exporter in the World. So a report says.

I think Thailand could be heading for a 'double-whammy' ?
