I have visited Franco's Spain. Brezhnev's Soviet Union and lately Fidel's Cuba. I really must say I was none too keen on the way the countries were run. The Cubans are lovely people but the way it is ruled reminded me of Brezhnev's Soviet Union or Salazar's Portugal. A Upper class Spanish girlfriend used to tell me about the undercover security spies listening to your conversation in bars in the Avenida Generalissimo in Madrid in the Franco days. It's the same now in Havana. Brezhnev's boys hassled me because they knew I worked at a N.A.T.O base. In a word SHUT UP ! I might also add that I was in Athens in March 1974 when the Greek Colonels were in charge and large US limosenes speed around Omomia square and the USS Kennedy sat off shore. In May the Turks invaded Cyprus. I like to believe my antennae are well-tuned to a countries political situation. Why the long intro ? =Thailand ! Reading todays' papers two events have concerned me and sent the alarm bells ringing. The first Harassed' radio host quits, to go into exile Second MP, mistress may have been killed' Then this well written letter to today's 'Nation':- LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Anti-government websites were apparently cutting it too close for comfort My links are to the Nation newspaper and therefore are in the public domain. I shall be disappointed if anybody or a moderator whinges on about Forum rules. My long introduction is to show that I have travelled well to many regimes and like to think I know what I am talking about and can show concern about the direction a nation takes. My concern is the future of Thailand. I have to visit here because of family reasons. Otherwise I would say,"Whoops dodgy place, I'm off for good!" I can't change the way things are but I can see the forthcoming dangers and the 'Clear and Present Danger'? I am looking further than the end of a beer glass ! I have to ! I have no option otherwise I'd stay in expensive Europe. Oh yes, Brazil is also well dodgy. If it wasn't for Bush and the 'moral right Bible bashers' and the fingerprinting of tourists I'd also return to Miami South Beach. Brother Wolf, What are you trying to say its getting worse in Thailand or just same same, I think its just same same so no big deal. Thailand is a young democracy so they have some teething problems, what is democracy if your in the minority your f***ed anyway. Rules are rules when you know what to expect its not difficult, its change that a lot of people will resist. Who are we anyway to critisize, are we perfect in the west. With all the cameras being placed in the uk, big brother is watching you its a fact - ah paranoia, keep the masses in line, if you step out we will stamp on you. Or all the people in jail in the USA, he you break the rules,WE GONNA GET YOU. Its all about the formula, why change it the habits of a lifetime. you tink too muk, go to lolitas on the double. When all is going well, it may have seemed liberties were respected but now so much shit is going on all over the world, they resort to what they know. Each in his own way all over da world theres no escape. Only 300 years ago we mutulated and be-headed people in public, now we think were civilised its not so long ago. BTW its never been allowed to have comments about the government or king in thailand at risk of dissappearing. There are many secret police listening for anti govenment talk always has been. That some are trying the water out of democracy is a good sign, they will not be able to stop it forever. My thai wife has lived in europe for more than 5 years she does not understand that people can demonstrate against the government and not get killed or locked up. Comments about the monarchy she cannot even comprehend, ' what free speak is " because it never existed, yet C.C

He may have been killed by his girlfriend or by her boyfriend, or accidentally fell during a fight with his girlfriend or her boyfriend, but it is not likely this had anything to do with politics, civil liberties, or government repression. There is certainly no evidence of that. I guess this kind of innuendo is not surprising from someone who thinks they have been abducted by aliens from outer space.

I think we should encourage Hermanolobo. His absence will help keep the average IQ of everyone in Thailand at an acceptable level. His presence skews the average downwards.
