I guess it helps to actually read the article before speculating 
Seriously, fatal robberies are nothing new ANYWHERE in the world, particularly when you have underprivileged robbers, and well-to-do (soon to be) victims. The same thing, most likely with higher frequencies, happens in any of our so-called 'more civilized' countries just as well.
That said, I am also not surprised at the Thai girl's reaction, simply because (as has been pointed out by Jojje) there's plenty of farang that leave a less than ideal impression with the Thai, and thus I can see how this kind of attitude may be prevalent, unfortunately. Has little to do with TRT propaganda, and more with the way certain farang color the impression Thais have of us.

well this guy said he came here not long time ago was bulding a house right. Then in true holliday spirit maybe he gave the workers some beers and stuff and start drinking with or with out them. Big misstake. All my thai friends all tell me NEVER eat or drink with your staff. Its still a class system in Thailand and its there for a reason. Most of them do not have school and can not read the workers. Remeber the taxi driver 5 years ago killed a Finish girl beucase he need money to go home to Issan. 150 THB got and life in prison. I dot not say Thai people are stupid but you have to be carful with people with no education and desperate for money any ware

Yes it is often explained away as that and it is certainly something that thias are comfortable with to explain away incidents like this, but it actually goes much much deeper than that to the philiosphies that permeate still strongly through their society that teaches ultimate loyaly to the family initially and then to the group, originally coming from the chinese, it's the reason they all love the king and the reason they will always side with thais and the reason an admition of fault of any thais would bring a loss of face to thailand and themselves, this aspect of their society is however certainly not unique to Thailand.

I gotta say that I completely agree with Broken Leg, the girls reaction I don't beieve has anything to do with a perception of farang behaviour.
Thai's in general have absolutely no mechanism to see self fault as individuals or as a Nation. Certainly not an exclusive trait, but I would put then in the list of 'world class exponents'.
