JackRabbit present...

Heavy numbers , indeed.DD's are getting a strike.
IMHO , 600 killed by police in 3 weeks stated looks a bit high.

Even Colombian deathpatrols look ineffective , IF number is correct.

That number is 2-3 times too high. CNN as usual can't find its ass with both hands.

"CNN as usual can't find its ass with both hands."

But you can bet they'll have a camera crew on the spot if they ever do because it would be the most news worthy event that has happened in a long time!  ;)

Not to say that it makes it anymore correct but the Econimist cites the same figure. And its Amnesty Int that gave that figure to CNN. (Which also doesn't necessarily prove it.

In any case if we say it's only a 1/3 then we still have a figure of 200.

I really don't want to get into this with Sauron. Not only because as we all know he is a fearsome and feirce debater but also because I suspect we are quite likely to never quit see eye to eye on this.

In any case, I think I've stated my piece on the other thread.

Thaksin is willing to kill any number of pipsqueak dealers from the lowest rungs of society, but I have yet to hear of any poo yai or poo dii getting whacked out.

Anyone who thinks this will have any real impact on amphetamine trafficking in LOS is smoking something contraband.

There's a limitless supply of the desperate poor willing to take big chances for what to them is big money.

Thaksin if he were serious would be going after the producers and the financiers. Ultimately he'd have to take on Burma to do that, and before that, kill or imprison a whole lot of the Thai elite.

Instead he is sucking up to the Burmese and the absurd idea that they "cooperate" in "suppression".

So this is all idle bloodletting to accomplish nothing of value.

And that is the salient point, the body count isn't really relevant.

My pal Gen Salang lost his job for doing this to 5 baddies in Suphanburi.

What's that compared to hundreds now?

My level of concern for the "human rights" of drug dealers is however, a trifle thin.

However it is cynical to cosmetically take out the riffraff and leave the big fellas alone.

Well said Sauron !
I think the BBC figure is 300.
When I was in court in the north last summer there were a load of Thais(farmers and youths)in chains. They had been trafficking drugs. My lawyer said Ya Baa is the biggest problem has got right now and most of the courts a full of similar cases !

I'd say the number will go higher.   Who are they going to run to for help?  The police?

I know I may be a bit slow and naive, OK stupid and naive but I can read once I figure out what to read.

Things just don't add up.  200, 300 maybe 600 dead whatever, but officials are offsetting that with 15,000 having been arrested?

15,000+ operators in the drug market identified in a 3 - 4 week period of time?  Pretty good detective work!

Add to that, a statement was made that any drug dealers leaving the country to avoid CAPTURE will be arrested if they return.

It may have been a translation error in the various articles I read but if it wasn't, why allow them to leave in the first place?

Add to that, Govenors are being threatened that if those targeted in their respective regions are not brought in, the Govenors will be replaced.

What, is there a master list that was drawn up in advance?  15,000 in custody, let's say 250 dead, plus all the non-performing Govenors, let's say 20,000 in total.

20,000 operators in the drug trade and they were all researched and identified in a month or less?

The DEA in the US needs to take leasons from these boys!  Well, but then again, maybe not!
