I have a galaxy of Thai friends on Facebook.( not my real name)

Then I hit em hard with free speech and western superior values in that regard and then plant these stories in their face and point out that no one takes them serious as a nation when this shit happens to people in the 21st century.

Never seen such over fanatism for royalty than I los but then again they all love the king right.
Nothing wrong with that but no place in a democracy for this sort of shit.
The king is good man this is not of his doing and he cannot change it. Thailand will go into one big crisis when he dies and who will be his sucessor ?
If Thailand ever wants to be taken seriously in the world on human rights and democracy they have a long way to go. They get away with a lot of stuff because of the so called 'war on drugs '. But the powers at be are a sadistic bunch who keep control and punish in an often dispriportionate way. Put that aside the obvious
favorism and corruption and you know where you are if your born there. If your family is not rich or connected well tough titties one rule for us another for them.
Just so happens that most of us western visitors have money so we are just above that mudpile but for all means and purpose merely tolerated.

I agree the King deservedly should hold respect and is a decent person.
And it's true he himself doesn't condone Barbarically dark ages punishments inflicted on citizens.
You should see the responses I get on face book.
Rich Bangkok gold store owners denouncing immoral western values, and immediately going over the top.
The great thing is the moderator bans a few....while my measured responses are untouched.
This sobers the Thais big time.
WTF they demand who see the carnage......we are Thai surely a westerner can't denounce our values?
But yep...human rights is universal......and agressive nasty responses is not....
They get a mass media lesson on World Vs Thai Ignorance
Many unfriend me......accept the greedy f***s and reds I hadn't filtered out and a few uni girls.
I then find more by checking out photos..I get the ones posting white uniforms and the kneeling business....many have daughters.
A good suit and some sports cars and marina photos on the back of 10 million dollar boats...and European ski fields etc suck them in. (all easily faked photos)
They get blinded by greed.
But to enjoy it you need these types.
When you throw this at them they really can't believe it.
But human rights to them only comes with position in life.
That's their whole system".....
They really don't understand why we care about a low class human being.......(in their eyes)

While I have sympathy for his family I have none for him.
Who doesn't know that you don't go into foreign countries and insult their heads of state without knowing something about their laws or cultures or without expecting possible repercussions? - Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Who travels the world and does not know "When in Rome do as the Romans". Does it take a lot of sense to not do things if you don't see/hear/read locals doing them? Throughout Thailand all you see is unconditional reverence for the royal family. Acting accordingly is not brain surgery it is just plain common sense.
"Welcome to the land of smiles", infers that Thailand is unusual in enforcement of Lese-Majesty laws (though granted that their prison conditions are barbaric). Such laws go back to the Roman Empire and earlier, and are enforced today in such 'civilized democratic' countries as Denmark, Netherlands, Switzwerland, Germany, etc., etc.
In such civilized democratic countries as England and Ireland only a fool would mouth off political or even religious insults in a pub - at the risk of his life even
Just common sense. If you don't use it you pay the consequences. That's life.
