Obviously, the crackdown isn't primarily focusing on Farang P4P, it's focusing on p4p in general. ÝThai fluency will most likely help you in dating, if you got game. ÝBut for direct p4p... it'd be pointless if it ceases to exist. ÝThe latter statement most likely isn't plausible. ÝWhat is plausible is that by exterminating "institutionalized" p4p, it'll drive prices up due to the scarcity.

While I'm not in town just now to see it first hand, I'd be interested as to how you form your conclusions about the focus of the crackdown.
'P4P' as we so lovingly refer to it, has been around in Thailand for centuries, and is as 'institutionalized' as it can be. ÝAnd your conclusions about Thai fluency just don't ring true to me, unless you are trying to say that it won't help you get into Thai-only venues. ÝThe fact is that Thai-only venues exist ONLY where there are a lot of farangs to exclude. ÝTravel around a bit, and I think you'll see that you are welcome, if only as a novelty.
The notion that the 'crackdown' is targeted at prostitution in general is naive and ludicrous. ÝIt is yet another short-term bandage applied to a pair of gaping wounds: the Davis Group (Chewit), and APEC. ÝBringing Purachai out of obscurity for one more round is just temporary: he will return to obscurity, once the big man gets what he needs. ÝOr he may stick around a while to be the scourge of farang sex-tourists. ÝBut they will NEVER eradicate protitution in Thailand.
And as the dipshit 'weekend warriors' start to look for greener pastures, supply and demand will LOWER prices, after an initial Thai-style 'raise the prices to make up for lost business' gambit. ÝThe supply wil NEVER diminish, until the greater social problems are met with more than a quick-fix mentality.

Got to agree with HS, eventually APEC will pass, CNN will not be showing pictures of sex tourists, the moralists will crawl back into thier holes, and the cycle will begin again.
Look on the bright side, Greece is cracking down on UK sex tourists/partiers in preperation for the Olympics next summer, we only have to bear it for a couple of months...

Brother Haam Sup already said it beautifully so all I will add is that I wish they WOULD put a little more focus on the P4P scene as a whole. If they had access to the other more then 90% of the scene that most of us will never see and were able to bring even a portion of it into the light maybe there would be a few less children locked up in houses, often chained to their beds being forced to service many Thai men daily at 200-300 baht per in order to repay moneys loaned to their families ( That is those that weren't sold outright by their own families ). I've said it before, as far as I'm concerned this latest round of crackdowns ( As well as some of the others ) is at least good for one thing. At least it focuses a spotlight on which bars are allowing underage girls to work there ( And not as waitresses ) and gets them out of that situation, even if only temporarily. At least OUR side of the scene is being made ( Or perhaps I should say forced, not that it matters to me in the least how it's getting done ) to do something about the problem of underage sex in LOS. Fear not guys all is well in the land of sanuk.
As usual there is a superficial attempt to make respectable the P4P scene but really it is not hampering anybody's activities.
There have been raids on go go's and i was caught in one but it was all show really.
The two main effects of the crackdown are the early closing 2am and not showing in the go go's .This is not something that is likely to cause anyone great hardship.
I make a fearless prediction that after APEC the screws will be loosened.
Long term the P4P scene will not disappear in Thailand as long as they have the great social inequalities that drive women into the business in search of a better life.

First, I will say one thing; the focus is on the farang P4P scene, because the farang can use some discretion lessons. It may only constitute only 10% of the total, but the Thai's can be discreet. So the 10% looks like 90%. The sex tourist is all too proud to walk with BG under his arm showing off his purchase like a new sports car, hence one of the reasons for the crackdown.
Chuwit is no better, last week he personally visited three police headquarters to deliver his invitation to the commanding police officers to his birthday party. They should give him some red paint, so he can use it to paint a bull's-eye on his head. This guy definitely got big balls.
Now, to the subject at hand. I have to escort a company customer to the bars of Nana & Soi Kaoboy and here is my insight:
Thursday Night (Raining)
Cascade: All water is gone, but many beached whales. Not worth the 3 flights of stairs to get there.
Angel Witch: Four customers, many girls. Many stunners of three months ago realize their profit potential and went free lance. A lot of pressure to bar fine. This was before the show at 10:30
Playskhool: Many girls. Pressure for bar fines, but this place is a lot of fun.
Friday Night:
Susie Wong's: A lot of girls, few customers.
Long Gun: Pack as usual. Many girls. Show is still on. They have nice light brown see thru bikini tops, plus the dancers during the show are always adjusting their G strings. I guess the only way to adjust them is to pull them out about a foot away from there body
Sheba's: A few customers, some nice girls, more laid back without the barfine pressure.
Saw the local plod drinking at a bar. (Could have been water for all I know, but they were definitely relaxed).
Back to Nana..
Voodoo: Six girls left, closed at 1:45.
Left at the mad exit time.
Listen up for the Tip of the day. If you stay until mad rush closing time, exit to the road (Soi) by taking the wooden walkway along the entrance that is part of the bar on the corner. I did not do that and got accosted by katoey's leaving the place. Fortunately, I was not that drunk and grabbed the katoey's arm while she/he/it was lifting my wallet.
In summary, all the girls are covered up in all bars. But as many know, you just can keep clothes on a BG and some girls still showing, but because of the crackdown, I am seeing less customers. Because of this, the BG's are more aggressive in getting the customers on hand. More personal sales pitches are given at your seat.
Everything goes in cycles, just like Real Estate. Right now it is a buyer's market.
