I think the last time the 'global elite' (actually the US govt) tried to pull a stunt like this, it was in the 50s. If you want aid, boys, you're gonna have to clean up your act.
The Thais obliged by making prostitution illegal, which it remains.
Note that this was long before Pattaya, Cowboy, NEP or even Patpong. You'd have thought the global elite might have learned something.
If you've read 'A Woman of Bangkok' you should have a pretty good sense of how the P4P scene here can change quite dramatically on the surface while remaining exactly the same underneath. I am confident that it will go on changing in response to a combination of political, social and commercial pressures. But why should I assume that these changes will not be to my liking?

I have mentioned it before but there are also women sex tourists in Africa, The Caribbean, Sri Lanka etc Where is the outcry i wonder.
More importantly i wouldn't worry too much about the current crackdown as the real reason the P4P will not disappear is that wages are just too low and the returns too high for many to ignore the temptation to make a fast easy buck.
