I agree with your grasp of economics. Money doesn't just disappear. The money we pay for p4p is only one aspect of our contribution.
I am not pretending to be a good samaritan. As all people I serve my self interests 1st.
In this case our money is circulated into the economy by our friend or friends as the case may be. May we all have many "friends".
We pay for a service and that money moves into the economy. We still have to eat while there and if you have even a passing interest in life around you you will spend money on "legitimate" good while in country.
You will speak to others about those things that you can talk about in mixed company and they will want to see them. We do bring a lot into any economy we go into. Directly and indirectly. A loss of any industry that is thriving is a loss no matter how you look at it.
But if a portion of the industry was to go away it would be ours "farang".
It would cost the Thais alot across the board but western societies that do not understand how a culture can have diametrically opposed views at the same time do not view the choices the Thai people have for what they really are.
They can ill afford to attack the Chinese or Japanese clientelle on along term basis because they stand to gain much more long term.
The farang industry is "in your face" "definitely not an Asian way of thinking". We also complain the most and the loudest. Not just us Americans. All western cultures suffer from this malady.
Because of this, if the Thais have to choose they will choose to leave the other Asian oriented businesses alone. They can relate to them easier. And they won't close down the Thai houses cause that would be sacrilege.
I hope it doesn't happen but I think it is inevitable. Thats why we need to all live life like it was your last day. Because someday youll be right.
I think the pollution problems in the country will have a much larger negative effect on the economy than putting the hurt the places we go to meet our "friends".
Think how much further that money would go!!!

Well the P4P sytem has been in Thailand for centuries.
Its a fundmental part of the cultur. Like the crazy half naked Brasilian women I am with at the moment.
Without their Samba they would just shrivel up and in a way die.
95% of p4p is for Thias not farang. But I think this has to do with all this 'Global' nonsense which means taking away the 'fundamental' part of a historical culture and modernising it. And I don't mean 'Americanising it' . It is part of an agenda for change. They want to make America 'NAFTA' and Asia 'APEC' . The EU bollocks has happened already. I wish people would wake up to the fact that their history and culture is being hijacked by sophisicated 'International Gangsters' who want a 'Fourth reich' for the whole planet. They want everything grey and boring and controlled by them !
Maybe sometime in the future you will realise what I am getting at- Then it will be too late !

The enormous void of no farangs going for p4p is years at best away in some incarnation of sorts, but will exist in thailand for decades!...........This is just a clean thing, like a shity nappie, out with the shit, new nappie, better image, same shit!............The huge flow down of money that we bring in on average, and the hundreds of thousands of girls, that have nothing else to do without us, their cash that is dutifully sent home, the eating places that they go to, the shops, the hotels that we carry often.......transport ,planes to phuket, massive western union transfers in thailand, it adds up to alot. The prostitution in thailand is no doubt going to be less visible, bars will continue to carry on, some might not. Girls will always at a night club, submit immediately to your attensions, and have your pleasure and her purse in mind within seconds of responding........it will continue to be affordable, and as the crack down takes hold maybe cheaper!...........Thailand cant afford another few hundred thousand even poorer families pissed of at their daughters return and no money...Thats right, you might be suprised to learn more know than not, as usually they are getting a few thousand every so often sent to them, at least the goverment is glad about this much, as their resources are not that great. The thais want richer tourists , families, but to get them this in their eyes needs to be done. I am not saying avoid target places, but certainly it is time we went quietly hunting at least.....dg

I, for one don't believe in vast global conspriracies. ÝAt least not in an organized sence But Hermanolobo makes some sence in that cultures are being hijacked. ÝThats why I travel, is the cultures. Ý(ok maybe p4p too, ok I travel for P4P!!!!) But the cultures are cool too. ÝThey make the world interesting. Ý
The Thai younger generation is taking on a lot of western ideas. ÝThey are to young to realize they have a wonderful culture as it is. ÝEurope, South American all have good and bad just like Thailand. ÝYou can find the wonder of any country if you look just a little bit. Ý
I just hope I don't have to look to hard for the wonder come October.
Now that I am done pontificating, I have to go find some field reports so I know how hard I am going to have to look for wonder when I get to Greung Tep. Ý
