"But Thanit Thammasukti, advisor to Beer Thai, the bottler of the Beer Chang, predicted little effect on sales.

''By midnight, most people are already drunk and will stop ordering drinks anyway,'' he said."

I swear to NEVER EVER drink one more Chang beer of my life and encourage all of you to do the same....

The no daytime pool playing and beer drinking sucks,

So, is their rationale still to keep the kids off the streets, and reduce teenage alcoholism? Obviously, this will work (NOT), and people will be far safer with 100 of thousands of unemployed touts, pimps and girls roaming the street, being driven to robbings, and theft...

Hey, it's their country, and they have the right to make any mistakes they wish. The US tried the same, as well as other countries, several times in their past - it invariably failed with disastrous consequences of driving crime up.

So, similar to other examples, things will have to get worse before they get better - in other words, I believe that down the road there will be an impact from such actions (though, not immedately economic), and if it turns out to be sufficiently noticeable by the locals, maybe they will react with their votes.

I'm not familiar enough how active / apathetic the people in LOS are towards such political impacts. Any thoughts?

Dealing with the present situation, if we hit up the bars at 9pm then switch to an entertainment zone until 2am that still gives us 5 hours of BG search and destroy time. The only downer is everyone is going to be doing the same thing, at the same places, at the same times.

The way I see it, the change will make those areas more focused on what they provide - i.e. those people who do enjoy heading to NEP around 5:30pm or so, just to hang out at a bar with a few friends, *WILL* be affected, as you couldn't do that anymore (which, I think, *IS* stupid - what next? Starbucks and such can't be open?). Instead, you end up with everyone heading to NEP at 9:00pm, scurrying to grab their BG/TG for the night, and make it out of there. It definitely will destroy the casual environment.

Obviously, paces like Patpong are 'official' zones, as they are being slowly weedled down by the night market.

Nevertheless, I do believe that the impact of all of this will be short-lived, *IF* the impact can be made to be negatively felt by the region. From what I have been reading, while Thai gov't is certainly focused on implementing new master plans, they suck at follow-up and maintenance (So, what happened to 'Drug Free Thailand'?), thus invariably, everything will be close to back to normal again.

The real baffling thing is the 6.00pm opening. That is what will really hurt a lot of the bars and tourists, and that silly beer chang advisor. I really am so bewildered by this law.
