Quote: from Arcadius on 6:50 pm on April 23, 2004 Their sensivities aside, VJ actually makes an extremely telling point. Then again, since when has the practice of religion correlated very closely with the theory?
'Extremely telling point'? Certainly, about the author. Glad to see you're playing devil's advocate though, as you certainly have more depth than that. 'Their sensitivities aside...' Pray tell how does one set aside the deeply rooted sensibilities of the many throughout the world who are indeed sincere in their beliefs (which have absolutely nothing to do with those many others for whom practice and theory absolutely do not correlate) ? If others' sensibilities are so inconsequential as to simply say "f*ck em", then I suggest an experiment to find out how inconsequential sensibilities are. Walk into a: * Wat wearing swimsuit in question, and shout "F*ck B*****", * public gathering in BKK and shout "F*ck the K***", * or into Harlem and shout "F*ck the N*******", * or into a Mosque in the Middle East and shout "F*ck M********", * or into an Irish Pub and shout "F*ck the I*A." Etc., etc. etc. If sensibilities are so inconsequential why has BK wisely laid down definite laws re. transgressions on this Forum itself? Easy to sit back and say f*ck everyone's sensitivities, from the macho anonymity of a web post. But wise - ever??? IMHO.

This thread has limited room to express what might be better said in a pub over a few beers. Smegma I notice has been very prominent in the warning of offending religious groups in the past and he does so again here (although, questionably the originator of the thread). Without sounding like giving him a kiss, I suggest he is quite right in his advice that....."People should not play with the religious symbols of others." And maybe it's good to listen and follow the suggestion he has offered. And an argument supported by asterisks (*****) is no argument at all.

I agree that it's probably better to discuss this over beers, but since we can't all be @ the same place @ the same time, hense the forum. ** I don't want to get in to a so-called "holy war" on this forum because that's not the point. ** And it's not like I don't agree with that it should not be used. BUT............... In MY Opinion......... Unless you are Buddhist, I'm not sure what some are offended about? Since the article is talking about Buddism specifically. Unless you are another religion and can relate. Secondly, if you are against using the Buddhist symbol, then are you also against using the "cross" on clothing or as costume jewlery when it has nothing to do with Christianity? Thirdly, I think it is interesting that an idol or thing can provoke an outcry, yet the actions of others go without even a whisper. Lastly, I DON'T think people should mock other people religious beliefs period.!! Not just the symbols of the religions, but also their values. A hint, it's okay to joke about Catholic priest and little boyz, but I'm sure people would be pissed if a joke were made about Buddha? I'm not against the jokes, but those making the jokes have to understand that you can't be hypocritical and joke about one religion and yet get all pissed off if someone cracks a joke about your own religion!! Does that mean we have to be so politically correct in what we post?? Nope. But, I think being aware and sensitive can go a long.... long.. way.

Quote: from CafeDelMar on 10:09 am on April 24, 2004 I'm planning on starting my own clothing line... Have the image of "Jesus on the cross" on a thong. I wonder how the US media would react?
Unfortunately, the U.S would not even brink an eye over this one.
Quote: from CafeDelMar on 10:09 am on April 24, 2004 ABC, you are dead wrong, while the Cross stands for the true religion of this earth (haven't you seen Passion of the Christ) yet? What does Buddha stand for? Useless concepts like peace?
Have not seen the movie yet, but will. Sorry. Won't touch the rest of this one, except to say that I disagree. I think I'm right!! *grin*
Quote: from CafeDelMar on 10:09 am on April 24, 2004 So if the Thai government doesn't want the bikinis in Thailand, its there prerogative.
I agree. It is their perogative and I have no problem what-so-ever with that. In fact, you have to give them prop's for tellin' the main stream industry that no matter what you call it (art or fashion, ect.) it's offensive none-the-less so we aren't going to allow it. Good for them to stand up for what they believe in.

Sorry, I think my post was too edgy for this forum, and the sarcasm would be lost. I self censored. Good thing ABC has a sense of humor.

Yeh CDM, but ya gotta do it faster before you get quoted. ABC....I guess they like to put this topical stuff on the Z forum or sometimes just have it closed. I still think Smegma's got the right idea about this stuff but then he posted it. Must of been because of the terrific girl.
