From what I have read the election is on February 6th but the bars will be closed from 6:00 P.M. on the 5th until midnight of the 6th. So that's two nights of no sunuk!

The stores in Pattaya are selling spirits during the following time frames: 1100-1400 hours 1700-2400 hours Do NOT try to buy whiskey at Lotus between 1400 and 1700. You ain't gonna get it. Anybody have any idea how this directive was dreamed up and which government nuclear physicist came up with it?

AFAIK it's not actually law yet. On his birthday, the King said young people were drinking too much (among other things). Next day Thaksin says something like 'Well we'd better restrict the hours you can buy it'. The day after that the signs went up in Tescos. Not enforced for the first couple of weeks and then it was. You are still able to buy cases (spirits and beer) -- quantities over 10l or something -- all day long in Tescos (at least in BKK). 711 still sell alcohol all day. Apparently, I've been told, Tescos are just being ultra-cautious because they're new (-ish). 711 are part-owned by some 'friends' of the lovely Khun Thaksin, but I know that has nothing to do with the fact that they still sell booze all day...

I didn't try 7-11 but Best Supermarket and Friendship in Pattaya will also not sell during those hours. I don't really give a shit since I drink very little and none at home, but can anybody see any logic behind this latest shot in the dark at controlling the local teenagers?
