I cannot understand why it is not a standard fit?

In the days of fibre optics and modern cheap cameras it is hardly going to break the bank ?

Lockheed went out of business because they made their aircraft too well in some cases. The L-1011 Tristar had a ladder that went from the cockpit in the event of an emergency. Boeing provided a rope to slide down.

There are sharp edges in the hold of a Boeing because they reckon it costs man hours to finish them off.

Boeing stuck shims between the frames and the skin on the early B707's.

Everything Boeing does is man-hour cost related.
A downturn in sales then Boeing lays people off.

Airbus try to redeploy their staff 'in-house' so there is continued worker skills. The Airbus build quality is superb.

Nothing wrong with Boeing they just use a different manufacturing philosophy with regard to staff costs.

Maybe thats the answer ?
