does sound like the old british laws on drinking/licences. we changed them to try and stop binge drinking/and to bring us in line with the rest of europe. would this encourage binge drinking?? any members currently in pattaya bkk etc can give us some field reports tonight?

The work-around is right in the law:

"These hours do not apply to transactions in wholesale quantities. "

Wholesale quantities, I believe if I recall properly from another article about this issue, start at 10 liters. Just go and purchase 10 liters or more at a time.

Banning p4p is a long way from reducing drinking hours. I suspect that P4P will continue to thrive in the absence of alcohol...

Early closing hours just means that people either go out early or drink quicker, bloody stupid rules, even in the UK we are trying all night opening in an aim to avoid people rushing drinks and spilling out drunk on the streets at 1 am.

But we all know places in bkk were you can drink till the sun comes up, but as thats out of site and mind then np.......

No.

I believe they are trying to get rid of hopelessly drunk and embarassing farang making a spectacle of themselves in public places. I actually believe that if a lot of the idiots populating the usual places would act a lot more discreetely, or rather, behaved themselves with more common sense, then the gov't would not care.

I guess the common sense rules of flying under the radar have escaped the unwashed farang masses, living it up on booze.

So if the go-go is open till one but they stop serving booze at 12?

If I buy myself a LD do I get to keep a cut for myself like the girls do?

Okay, admittedly, I don't drink much, and unlike some (apparently) my life does not center around the consumption of alcohol -- but how is having certain parts of the day to be 'dry' and unable to sell alcohol mean 'going down the toilet'?

Arguably, this is being done in some misguided attempt to cut down on underage drinking, and reduce the number of drivers that drink - and arguably, it will be as pointless as many other measures -- but knowing about it, you can always plan ahead (as has already been discussed in another thread).

I'm always fascinated how the prospect of banning alcohol sales seems to be tantamount to the end of the world for some people - when, arguably, alcohol doesn't really 'do' that much for you, if anything at all... (though, certainly, bars and clubs will be affected -- and to be honest, since they didn't manage to close down bars and clubs at midnight, they are now hoping that by eliminating that which 'fuels' bars and clubs, they will wear down and shut them down in some other manner.

Of course, there's ways around that...

Yet another poorly thought out and unsophisticated reply from stuck-in-a-duck.

For instance my favourite place the Saxophone Pub has already been badly hit by 1.am closing. This means that the musicians who want to gigs after 1am are badgered for doing so ! Quite a knock-on effect in all areas.
Coming form Europe I would have thought you had more sense about these things.

Sondhi in trouble with the 'Thought Police'.

Sorry to disappoint in not being a drunkard like the rest.

Any ban on alcahol will have no effect on me,,, I don't even know what that is!!!!

But if they try to stop my alcohol I may get upset.
