Will Smith, Further info for you :- Report from The Nation dated Friday 12 May 2006 :- Skytrain extension to Taksin Intersection in Thon Buri ============================================= The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration will hold a meeting with the contractor Siemens on Monday to finalise the cost of extending the Skytrain from Saphan Taksin station across the river to Taksin Intersection in Thon Buri. The German company has said it requires Bt1.8 billion to complete the 2.2-kilometre extension, while the BMA says it has a budget of Bt1.2 billion, said Aphirat Siwaphornphithak, head of the BMA's Traffic and Transportation Department. The 2.2-km section is part of an 5.7-km extension project, which will stretch from the Taksin Intersection to Phetkasem Road in Bang Wa. The 5.7-km extension is part of the BMA's overall expansion of Bangkok Transit System service routes in three directions. The other two routes are the 5.25-km extension from On nut station to Sukhumvit 107 and the 5.1-km extension from Mor Chit station to Kaset Intersection. The three extensions will cost an estimated Bt27 billion in total. The BMA will completely own and run the three extended routes. This will require the City Assem-bly's approval of an amendment to end government subsidies, and the termination of an agreement for the routes to be operated by a joint venture with the private sector. ********************************************************* Report from Bangkok Post dated Wednesday 10 May 2006 :- MRTA prepares for new subway routes ============================================= The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), which oversees Bangkok's underground train system, is arranging all necessary preparations for the new government concerning the development of new subway routes. Chairperson of MRTA board Anchalee Chavanit said here on Tuesday that the arrangements, including bidding processes for would-be investors and public hearings on the new routes, were aimed to facilitate the new government and quicken the construction of the projects. "Although the set-up of the new government will be postponed until after a fresh general election, MRTA has continued arranging necessary preparations for the construction of the new routes," she told journalists. "Progress has particularly been seen for the new blue and purple routes," she added. Once the construction of the new routes is complete, it will help serve a large number more commutors who opt to turn to public transport systems amid global oil price hikes, according to Ms. Anchalee. In the meantime, she said, MRTA and Bangkok Metro Co., Ltd. (BMCL) --the operator of the capital's subway systerm--are joining with the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) in linking the subway system with city bus routes to encourage more passengers to use the underground train service. The initiative, which will be launched on May 17, begins with a linkage between the BMTA's Ratchawong Pier route and the Subway's Sam Yan Station and between the BMTA's Bangkhen route and the Subway's Phaholyothin Station. The cooperation would then be expanded to cover other areas in the future, said Ms. Anchalee. Currently, the number of passengers using the city's subway system has increased to around 170,000 a day, from about 140,000 a day last year, according to BMCL

Will Smith, This is for you :- Report from Bangkok Post dated Thursday 4 May 2006 :- Bicycle parking at BMA offices ============================================= Parking areas are being set aside for bicycles at all Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) offices. The move, prompted by the soaring price of fuel, is to cater for employees who cycle to work and to encourage more people to follow their example and at the same time help reduce air pollution. Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin said yesterday the move is part of the BMA's energy-saving campaign. As a first step, bicycle parking has been provided at the BMA's headquarters on Dinso road and its second office in Din Daeng district. As well, the 50 district offices and all BMA-run agencies have been instructed to designate parking areas for bicycles. Mr Apirak said the city is urging people to use public transport instead of private cars and, with this in mind, is expediting the extension of the skytrain route. ********************************************************* Report from Bangkok Post dated Saturday 29 April 2006 :- BMA set on starting skytrain link this year ============================================= The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is determined to begin the BTS skytrain extension from Onnuj to Sukhumvit Soi 107 this year. Bangkok Governor Apirak Kosayodhin said during an inspection trip to the designated construction site that the BMA will absorb the entire cost of nine billion baht for the 5.2-km extension route. He said the administration would seek the budget from the City Council, which would meet a few times before the election in June. The money will be diverted from 16 flyover and underpass projects, now under investigation for alleged graft. ''People need electric train services and it is odd for anyone to oppose the project,'' Mr Apirak said, apparently criticising councillors from the Thai Rak Thai party who are complaining about the budget diversion. The Onnuj-Sukhumvit 107 extension is one of three extension routes of the BTS train system. The other two are Taksin-Phetkasem (4.5km) and Mor Chit-Kasetsart (5.1km). Mr Apirak is choosing to start with the Onnuj-Sukhumvit 107 extension because an environmental impact assessment (EIA) study has already been done. The administration earlier selected Italian-Thai Development Plc to build the elevated structure of the extension route, including stations and tracks but it will try to convince the contractor to reduce its quoted price. Mr Apirak said he would divide the construction into two phases so commuters would not have to wait three years for the whole route to be completed. There will be four stations on the route, at Sukhumvit 62, Sukhumvit 101, Sukhumvit 103 and the head office of the Meteorological Department. The extension is expected to serve 80,000 passengers a day. Mr Apirak pushed for another extension section (2.2km) from Taksin bridge to Taksin road late last year. As the Thai Rak Thai government had been reluctant to support the extension, the governor, who is also a Democrat deputy leader, managed to push for funding of the BTS extension with the BMA's own budget. The BMA is selecting a signalling system supplier for the 2.2km section, Apirat Sivapornpitak, director of the BMA's traffic and transport office, said, adding the agency will ask Siemens Co to cut its quote from 1.8 billion baht to meet the BMA's budget of 1.2 billion baht. If Siemens refuses to lower its price, the BMA will turn to other firms, he said

...which apparently didn't provide enough smarts to secure an appropriate domain, or an easy to find placement on search engines - that is, if it even exists (I doubt it very much). Must be really secret, eh?

Brainless zombies? Don't know where that came from? I always thought it was established that LBs are essentially from a demographic that is largely composed of scammers and borderline violent criminals, though there *may* be few exceptions.
