What I personally like most in the gogos is that you see what you get, you have a wide choice and after a bit of talking to the girl you also know about her attitude (to rule out she is a starfish).
There is no risk of unpleasantly finding out that she has strech marks or tattoos. There is no bullshit, no beating around the bush.
Its a very convenient form of entertainment where you can sip you beer, have a look as to whats on offer, enjoy the show a little and then stroll to the next place.
I cannot tell whether it was more fun some 15 years ago, but I would agree that in the face of globalization and flight prices of less than 500 € everything tends to get more inflationary, hardenen, commercialized. Is this part of the tourism industry continously improving its processes and increasing efficiency?

have to agree with your comments. Though I do enjoy the gogo's every once in a while. So I find the mercenary attitudes in them these days a turnoff. Still find the occasional jem in 'em, though. And yes, there are plenty of Japanese in Soi Cowboy these days, even in the off-season, as they work and live in BKK. Even have a number of Japanese families in my apartment building (kinda surpising, considering I'm a cheap charlie when it comes to rent). A Thai friend of mine, who used to run a hole in the wall drinks and hi-jinks bar out on Suk, primarily catered to Japanese. He thought the reason more and more Japanese are hitting SC and Nana is because they are beginning to see the value in lower priced venues not targeting Japanese. They aren't stupid about money, it's just P4P is so damn affordable for them in LOS, compared to Japan, that everything at first appears to be a bargain. But they are catchin' on. Unfortunately, it's still drives the prices to a higher level than this cheap charlie wants to pay.
So what to do. Well, I'd take Abrak's advice, and get out a bit. For instance: the non-P4P ladies have greater access to us, the farang, in this new internet age. For instance, there is one TG that works at a Starbucks who seems to have it in for me (in a good way, lol). I hadn't really noticed, until my TGF pointed it out to me one day while we drank cappucinos there. She teased me with "I think she want to be your mia noi. She even come up to me and talk with me when you go horng nam!" Then I bumped into this particular lady later that week at Tesco Lotus. She was all smiles and chit chat, until she saw my TGF coming in our direction with the cart, lol! Her demeanor switched to "Friends Only" faster than you could say "kreung jai!" I got a big kick out this, as did my TGF, who ribbed me about it later. But it appears I have some more work to do at that coffee shop, when my TGF is off doing some other things, hehehehe...

I have to agree with ballz about the mercenary attitude in go gos. I only travel to Thailand twice a year so I notice the changes. In addition the showing has stopped for the most part in BKK go gos. And the 1 AM closing has put a damper on the go go scene.
The flip side is that after 1 AM Sukhumvit is packed with go go girls. At 2 AM nana parking lot is packed with these girls and the parade exiting the disco. You'll never see this number of girls inisde any go go and at this time there's a distinct willingness among them to go.
That has made BKK a better place in my opinion. The go gos are just a place to chill for me now. I haven't barfined from one in some time and I don't really miss it.

I normally stay in the LOS for 4 weeks at a time.
First week BKK then 2 weeks Phuket then back to Bkk for the last week.
For my next trip I will be staying in Phuket for 3 of the 4 weeks, the bars are a lot nore relaxed and I feel less pressurised and they stay open later.
I do still enjoy going to NANA but not as much as I did.

Well one of my principal objections to gogos is that it is very difficult to spot the starfish - often the girl who is all over you and has her tongue down your throat within 5 minutes turns out to be a dud in the sack.
The good time girl you bump into is usually just as much of a sex addict as you.

One big owner has put it best "If a girl works at a Go-go for very long she is either stupid or ugly"
Basically he said the mobile phone has completely changed the market and any girl who has looks and a very smarts works a couple of months until she builds up a contact base then splits.
As Abrak says even the Go-go are taking a backseat to other venues, i.e. CM2, Riva's Q-Bar where a gil can build her client base.
So now for the most part the P4P go-go scene model has eveloved to the Pump & Dump model and now many turns a girls can do in a night. There are exceptions of course, but for the most part you can read many FR's here of LT's turning to ST's that wasn't the case years ago. A girl was all to happy to camp out in your hotel room.
