Let’s see, Running a taxi into a tank, yeah that works... CG, I have not seen any Bush bashing yet, a dig at Condi, a few comments about the administration (which are true), a some sound advice for the Western Powers; but no Bush bashing. As it were, it seems that the US is going to play it cool and wait to see what develops. The US Ambassador had the following comments after meeting with the new interim PM: "We had a very good discussion," Boyce said. "I think it's very well known that the United States urges a speedy return to a democratically elected government and protection of civil liberties during the interim, and the prime minister assured me this would be the case." For those who are interested... The full CNN Report

An interesting report from Singapore's TODAY newspaper Democracy, Thai military-style BANGKOK — It was the first instalment of a promise made just after it had seized power and Thailand’s military junta was keen to stress that it was keeping its word. Having pledged to step back in favour of civilians within two weeks, it duly appointed a new Prime Minister and said that a new Parliament would follow. Elections would be held in October 2007, it said, by which time a new constitution would also be in place. While there was nothing to suggest that the military, which deposed former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in a coup on Sept 19, would renege on its promises, it was equally clear that it intended keeping a tight grip on the new government. The man stepping up to run the affairs of the nation for the next one year is former army chief General Surayud Chulanont, 63. “I went to his house and spent half an hour convincing him to take the job while the country is in crisis,” coup leader Gen Sonthi Boonyaratglin told reporters even as tanks that had stood outside the Government House rolled back into their barracks. Gen Surayud has a reputation of being a military reformer and a man of integrity. In a country that has witnessed 18 coups over seven decades, he has spoken out in the past against military involvement in politics. He appeared somewhat uncomfortable under the limelight yesterday. Asked why he deserved to be Prime Minister rather than Mr Thaksin, the ousted Premier whose final months were characterised by street protests in Bangkok, Gen Surayud replied: “I don’t know.” Then he added: “I think that I have received the mandate from his majesty, the King, so I have to take the responsibility.” Alluding to the shadow of the military hanging over him, he said: “I will act on my own conscience as Prime Minister.” That might be easier said than done. The coup leaders will stay on as a Council for National Security, which has the power to fire the interim government. Gen Sonthi said the junta had to remain in place to encourage national unity. Gen Surayud, too, was keen to stress the healing touch rather over the political grip. “Two urgent problems are the political problems and the violence in southern Thailand,” he said. “I will put these two issues at the top of my agenda.” He said he would name his Cabinet within a week and focus on the nation’s happiness rather than its economic growth rate. “I will not focus on GDP as the previous government, but I will adhere to the sufficiency economy advocated by the King,” Gen Surayud said. Even so, it appeared that not everyone was happy with the country’s political situation. A taxi daubed with slogans saying “Destroying the country” and “Die for the country” rammed into a tank in Bangkok. The taxi was damaged, the driver hurt his ribs while the tank remained unscathed. — AGENCIES

The ONLY person that comes to mind is Tony Blair. Still, don't think that even Tony Blair could will himself to do the deed when confronted with Dubya's shriveled ass. Maybe Tony Blair will at least give Dubya a CBJ ?
Absolute nonsense Tony is a taker....not a giver

"He does not say a word of 'I shall return' or something in that regard but says that he will resume his public duty only when the time comes." http://www.bangkokpost.com/breaking_news/breakingnews.php?id=113322 This being followed by hordes of TRT resignations, undoubtedly done to prevent TRT from dissolving (which it will) since the new government has placed a 5 year exception on the election rights of party administrators of any dissolved party. Essentially, TRT is *done* and over! The good news just keep on coming out of this coup. Plus, the new Prime Minister has endorsed a policy of self-sufficiency and happiness, over pursuit of economic growth - which I consider a good idea, even if it may scare some foreign investors at first.

That sounds to me like a pretext to crack down on prostitution, without worrying about the effect on toursim.
