Strategically it is very logical for the militant, Thaksin backed, redshirts to bomb right after their candidate lost in the by election. "If you don't vote the way we want we will blow you up", aimed at striking fear for not voting in line with the reds. There has been very little reports of outright vote buying in the traditionally Democratic Bangkok constituancies, so a bomb here, or there could change future votes. At least that is the theory of after election bombings. My only complaint is that it wasn't a suicide bomber. reducing the numbers. There is still an element at work that has nothing to do with Seh Daeng's group. They have been used in the past when Thaksin's son wanted the land at JatuJak market to build his JJ Mall. They were used to convince the vendors to quit complaining about loosing their leases, even though they had first right to renewal, and the vendors quit complaining, and withdrew their legal actions. Seh Daeng was killed because his plans in running for election didn't include Thaksin. He had no intention of exhonorating Thaksin if he was elected, thus he was killed. There were no other redshirt leaders killed, or even targetted because anyone of them that would be elected has the first priority of exhonorating Thaksin. I was in with them, and even ate lunch with them a few times. Their positions behind, and on stage, made each of them easy targets at any time if they had been targetted as Seh Daeng was.

Quote: from bustyboy on 3:25 am on July 28, 2010 Strategically it would not make any sense for the Reds to re-start to bomb BKK at this time.
... actually, it might... with time, Thais get very forgiving... they also tend to hide their faces in their hands hoping the big bad boogie man will go away. ... and, it has been very quiet (... coincidentally, the bomb was detonated on Toxin's birthday). ... a bomb keeps the Reds fans, in danger of loosing interest, a bit on edge and reminds them that they are in a fight (for Toxin, of course... but, still). ... a friend in BKK, but from up North, says that her family reports the community Red leaders up there were out this last week drumming up support and getting the protesters fired-up again... she said that those whose interest was waning were being rallyed by the local organizers, keeping their spirits up and urging that "the ghosts of 90-some dead patriots will rise up against them if they fail to avenge their murders." ... ah!... ghosts, again... damn!... how can an illiterate farmer with a below-average IQ argue with THAT kind of logic?... tough.

Quote: from magnum on 10:39 am on July 26, 2010 ... wait until November... rumors are circulating that the Reds will re-engage (just in time for tourist season... how timely).
Could you elaborate on these rumors? What do they plan to do and when? Was this from a newspaper report ??
