This is the finding of a new study published in the July, 2011 in an issue of the Journal of Global Environmental Change. Aaron M. McCright of Michigan State University in East Lansing and Riley E. Expatchuck, I was being sarcastic. If you believe global warming is a conspiracy promoted by Al Gore to make himself rich, then I thought you might think the same of the Internet. In either case you have very little in the way of fact or evidence to support your view. I see nothing cryptic in your closing comment - I simply think it is irrelevant to whether global warming is real or not. If your logic is - Al Gore is rich, therefore global warming is a scam, then I think you need to come up with something better. The main point of my original post was to point out that ridiculing Al Gore for saying he invented the Internet is grossly unfair to the man and almost perversely so.

Global warming is hardly an established scientific fact. ________________________________________ SPECIAL REPORT: More Than 1000 International Scientists Dissent Over Man-Made Global Warming Claims - Challenge UN IPCC & Gore Wednesday, December 08, 2010 By Marc Morano – Climate Depot INTRODUCTION: More than 1,000 dissenting scientists (updates previous 700 scientist report) from around the globe have now challenged man-made global warming claims made by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and former Vice President Al Gore. This new 2010 321-page Climate Depot Special Report -- updated from the 2007 groundbreaking U.S. Senate Report of over 400 scientists who voiced skepticism about the so-called global warming “consensus” -- features the skeptical voices of over 1,000 international scientists, including many current and former UN IPCC scientists, who have now turned against the UN IPCC. This updated 2010 report includes a dramatic increase of over 300 additional (and growing) scientists and climate researchers since the last update in March 2009. This report's release coincides with the 2010 UN global warming summit in being held in Cancun. The more than 300 additional scientists added to this report since March 2009 (21 months ago), represents an average of nearly four skeptical scientists a week speaking out publicly. The well over 1,000 dissenting scientists are almost 20 times the number of UN scientists (52) who authored the media-hyped IPCC 2007 Summary for Policymakers. The chorus of skeptical scientific voices grew louder in 2010 as the Climategate scandal -- which involved the upper echelon of UN IPCC scientists -- detonated upon on the international climate movement. "I view Climategate as science fraud, pure and simple," said noted Princeton Physicist Dr. Robert Austin shortly after the scandal broke. Climategate prompted UN IPCC scientists to turn on each other. UN IPCC scientist Eduardo Zorita publicly declared that his Climategate colleagues Michael Mann and Phil Jones "should be barred from the IPCC process...They are not credible anymore." Zorita also noted how insular the IPCC science had become. "By writing these lines I will just probably achieve that a few of my future studies will, again, not see the light of publication," Zorita wrote. A UN lead author Richard Tol grew disillusioned with the IPCC and lamented that it had been "captured" and demanded that "the Chair of IPCC and the Chairs of the IPCC Working Groups should be removed." Tol also publicly called for the "suspension" of IPCC Process in 2010 after being invited by the UN to participate as lead author again in the next IPCC Report. [Note: Zorita and Tol are not included in the count of dissenting scientists in this report.] Article here: http://climatedepot.com/a/9035/SPECIAL-REPORT-More-Than-1000-International-Scientists-Dissent-Over-ManMade-Global-Warming-Claims--Challenge-UN-IPCC--Gore Then there is this... http://epw.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?FuseAction=Minority.Blogs&ContentRecord_id=f80a6386-802a-23ad-40c8-3c63dc2d02cb/

Global warming is very real... Twisting the terms of why is another matter. Man made is not the issue..... Perhaps it's natural and we contribute ""significantly only." However.....the doubt it exists at all.... That's a different story..... I mean....it's people like Carl Sagan who featured in Al Gores movie that hold a lot of sway with ordinary folks. People who really know their science. Not some jack in the Box shell spokesperson who gets cheques to say its all good folks in a white coat. The companies own a lot of them.. It's like the Girl with jizz dribbling down her chin while saying ""it's not what it looks like"" With some other John sheepishly getting dressed as you burst in.... I mean do you say....ok....it's not happening...I believe you? Hello "Mc Fly" You just gotta look at the TV screens to see shit is going on. Massive ice shelfs busting up...sea levels rising in some areas....hotter seasons...big storms...floods... I don't know Expat seems like a duck..walks and talks like one.... Man made or not I think we are f***ed... But I have always liked that stuff....munch down a beef burger and dribble mustard sauce and gulp beer watching the next place get struck by something nature has to throw....then try and muster up a human empathy feeling. "" oh the humanity"" I think people who don't think it's real should be rounded up or certainly marked with maybe a star on their arm.... And when it gets worse executed in large roman style fan fair... After all they are to be blamed for inaction... But then again if it's natural.....not much we can do accept pray

... DG... interesting stuff... an article proposing to validate the existance of non-existance of global warming based upon a POLL of common everday people, and scoring the opinions based on the respondents skin color, sex, economic status and political views. ... one of the guys the poll might not have interviewed is a guy names James Lovelock... uh... maybe he showed-up somewhere in your reading... the "father of global warming"... now, known as "Pariah" to Al Gore's disciples. ... based on an interview by liberal MSNBC, no less... "Global warming hysteria: gaia father stops panicking"... he is preparing to publish a book refuting his own hysteria. http://www.firstthings.com/blogs/secondhandsmoke/2012/04/23/global-warming-hysteria-gaia-father-extinguishes-his-hysteria/ ... incidentally, he is a white, male, politically agnostic academician... who is not so very nice to Al Gore.

What I am agruing here is separating Magnum fact from fiction, ok lets be serious for one second....let's be objective, leave politics and people out of it.. Real science does not need acts of faith. You don't need to believe in climate change. You can test it and check if this is true. Propaganda works different. There you need acts of faith, and will get evidence that only remains valid if you promise not to be skeptical, because otherwise you would be a enemy of 'the truth'. Also, to show how science works a bit better: If somebody like an answerer in this question says, global warming does not happen because the antarctic ice is not retreating, he maybe says a correct fact (it really doesn't do that), but what about the many other evidence? If you visit the alps, you can see dozens of glaciers that retreated dramatically in the past 100 years. From geologists, you can hear that there is no evidence that this happened in the past. Satellites can measure the direct energy balance of the planet and these show that Earth absorbs MUCH more energy currently as it emits - it is really heating. Other satellites can show that the sun is emitting actually less light as it did in the beginning of spaceflight. ....borrowed info

DG: Where did you lift that post? Not exactly your style of prose. Climate change is real. Man made climate change is highly suspect. Change has been happening for millions of years and will continue happening. Man can reduce his carbon footprint to near nothing and one volcanic eruption can overtake everything that has been done by man. Man made global warming, which is what enriched Gore, is not real. It is a scam that generates millions for the proponents of the scam.

I have tried to write in a fair and logical way using facts that are available to all expat....certainly the information is not invented.....facts are facts It's ignorant to think scams make any hell of a difference.... Satellites don't exactly lie

Magnum - You have at least slightly misrepresented what Lovelock has recently said. Going to James Lovelock's own website, this is what I find
Asked if he was now a climate skeptic, Lovelock told msnbc.com: “It depends what you mean by a skeptic. I’m NOT a denier.” He said human-caused carbon dioxide emissions were driving an increase in the global temperature, but added that the effect of the oceans was not well enough understood and could have a key role. “It (the sea) could make all the difference between a hot age and an ice age,” he said. He said he still thought that climate change was happening, but that its effects would be felt farther in the future than he previously thought.
So, to say this scientist's view has changed from proponent to denier is not true. He still believes man-made climate change is a fact, just that it is not occurring as quickly as he once thought and we still have time to prevent its worst consequences. (If all the political BS would get out of the way).

expatchuck - Yes, the climate has been changing for millions of years. We all know that. It has nothing to do with the issue of man-made climate change, over the last century or so. The point is whether we, since the beginning of the industrial age, have been introducing something to the balance that will cause a very rapid change in our climate that will disrupt it and make it far less hospitable to our species. A large majority of scientific opinion says that is what we are doing by burning fossil fuels. You can deny that by quoting this individual scientist or that individual scientist, but the fact remains that the majority of scientific opinion is that rapid man-made climate change is a reality. But hey, why worry? Maybe we'll have a catastrophic volcanic eruption that will make the whole thing moot? Seriously? How about we just try to deal with the problem at hand, for a change instead of inventing excuses for doing nothing? I apologize for the sarcasm, but I think your position is so indefensible that I can't help it. I have friends who sometimes argue along the same lines as you and I always find it frustrating.
