it's ridiculous to put thailand on that danger list. but truth is, there is always some nonsense going on here. this airport drama is turning thailand into a laughing stock. I don't know of another country where this would be allowed to happen, (besides the dictatorship type places). ok so we all love this place but it just feels the place is getting messier and messier. it's amazing that nothing really violent has happened, but it just feels like it's a matter of time. it would be a shame. and put aside the tourists for a second imagine all the problems this is causing for thais.

Yes that is probably true of course since it is obviously out of the question to mention the name of the person backing PAD! Let alone take them out hard and risk upsetting the supporting VIP. Still - it is only 4000 people and any welltrained western law enforcement would clear the area in half a day. Without any major injuries! There are tactical techniques today enabling that. 4000 people is holding the countries lifeline to the outer world under siege?! It was strange already when they took the government building.... but this?!? It has to end and it may be sad for the 2-week family tourists who have a restricted budget and not knowing when they are back home. Even worse for all people stranded in their cold, rainy or snowy home countries having waited for weeks and counting minutes until they finally reach NEP or the nearest soapy! What a nightmare!!

What do you mean Jojje? I thought the PAD has a core leadership of several people no? Why is the police afraid of the PAD I have no idea.. indeed very strange! Ap.- (not happy my long planned trip had to be cancelled after starting it...)

It's not the leadership of the PAD the poilice are afraid of - it's the army. The PAD has the support of Priscilla Presley (if you know what I mean). And the army will do what ever Elvis tells them to do. So everyone is affraid to move on the PAD. This is why the PM the other day said he would use the police with support from the navy and air force to clear the airport (Aupong - army general - had already told the PM to stuff it). That did not work as it appears the navy and the air force are also affraid of the army. Then last night the PM fired (ok reassigned) the a high up in the police force - I'm sure this is because he kept telling the PM to stuff it as well. No way he was going to butt heads with the army. After the big man police man was reassigned they did send a small police force out to the airport, and they did set up a check-point. This morning the PAD forced the police to leave the check-point. Anyone who has seen the footage of the police being "forced" to leave had to laugh. The police basically stood there while the PAD took thier riot shields and such and then sauntered off. Almost looked like the police went out to arm the PAD not to stop them. On the flip side I have heard a rumor that Elvis will make an annoucement and end this before the weekend is over - but I'll believe that when I see it.

Will look forward to your tale -- let's just hope you are able to make it back out without your TG finding out, and not getting stuck -- or worse, finding your face on a TV screen...

Do you know if the foreign tourists stranded by the closure of Suvarnabhumi airport must therefore pay the overstay fee or if the rule is pended under such circumstances ?

I heard that thre will be no overstay for stranded tourists that have tickets for depature within the time the airport closed and would have left before their visa expired if scheduled fligts been take off as usual. Anyway it will be unpractical to enforce the overstay fee since there will be many overstays at the same time.
