"A typical construction site:

Europe Thailand

Safety boots Flip flops
Safety harness Thin rope
Safety hat Beanie
Safety glasses Squinting through one eye "

Very true. I was down in Phi Phi last year and a guy had a bamboo ladder leaning against a power line while he cut the insulation off the line and spliced into it (i am sure it was live).

I read in Time magazine that people in a country do start thinking about safety/environmental impact until per capita income exceeds US$5000. That is the breaking point. Less and they are just trying to survive, more and a middle class is created that has something to lose.

Impossible.
According to Arramgay. Thailand is first world. There are no safety issues. The next time you are nearly flattened by some asshole cop riding his motorbike on the footpath, you can rest assured that he has a very good reason for being there. ie. on his way to lunch.
But I am a racist, coward, faggot so what would I know. I think Arramgay has lived in Thailand for 10+ years (as he claims) but has not ventured outside of his tacky soi India apartment.
So Arramgay, I am happy to meet with you and discuss your/my impressions of Thailand during our stay in Thailand. Or are you all talk, no action?

Give us a shout if you do meet up with him. I'll give you the Thaksin book to lend to him. (He's obviously too tight to spend 450B on it.)

Oh, you must promise not to racially abuse me, act in a craven fashion or bugger me (unless you're quite nice looking) when I give you the book.

WTF -- I'll probably get mown down by a motorbike on the pavement on the way...

(Where did you get the 10 years in Thailand thing? I don't believe anyone could think like that after living here for that long...why, it'd just be silly...)

He finally decides to take a vacation. He goes to Mexico, charter a yacht and goes out to the sea. As he lies half asleep in the sun's warmth on the deck, holding a fishing rod, smelling the sea breeze with a beer in his hand, he sighs and says : " Shit, why can't I do this all the time ? "

Can't remember which is which...does the Boeing only carry three people and a dog, and the Airbus take six, a dog and the kitchen sink? (Except the US government-funded military version of the Boeing 125cc moto, which was used extensively in Cambodia in the '60s and '70s for Psych warfare purposes, originally called the '125cc' in civilian guise, it became the '125cc (PW) ' when used in a military role. Originally available with either HD (HOG) or RR (Roller) engines, Lockheed (or some other people) developed a turbofan version capable of speeds in excess of 18kph. Later research led to a big row about EU and US subsidies that had bugger-all to do with Thailand and was, in fact, quite dull...)

rtb.
Bitterness and negativity bollocks. I was merely making observations based on fact. Once Arramgay reacted I had to bate him as his comments were pointless and unpleasant. If his response was less abusive, I would have shown him some respect.
MarkC, Arramgay would not have the bottle to meet me face to face.
The 10 years in Thailand thing was somewhere in Arramgay's earlier posting. But since his, katoey like, overly emotional tirade was so tedious, I cannot be bothered to go back and have a look.

Kenneth,
Apart from being a self proclaimed RACIST, a COWARD and a FAGGOT - You have also now established yourself as a LIAR.
Nowhere in this Thread ( or anywhere else for that matter ) have I stated that Thailand is a "first world country" OR that "There are no safety issues in Thailand".
In fact if you care to read through the Thread carefully you will see that I have accepted that there is a lot to be desired in Thailand - BUT then it is typical of you to spout your biased, prejudiced and RACIST opinions without any factual basis whatsoever.
And as for the "tacky Soi India Apartment" - this is really very amusing BUT as is usual with you NOT based on any facts and way, way off mark.
You seem to have a very severe inferiority complex that makes you want to put down other races. In fact you are beginning to sound very much like the Thailand version of what we used to refer to in Hongkong as "FILTH" - i.e. Failed In London Try Hongkong".
And as RTB pointed out - if you hate Thailand and the Thais so much, why don't you pack your bags and go home. And LIAR - don't pretend that your outburst was because of what I said. Go back to the start of the Thread and you will see all the nasty things you said about the Thais without any provocation whatsoever.
Obviously you have a very low intellectual level - that is why you spout opinions based on no facts and then when proven wrong try to move the discussion to the " my penis is bigger than yours" childish challenges.
Anyone reading this Thread will know you for what you are - SO I have absolutely no more to say to you - you LYING, RACIST, FAGGOT, COWARD.

MarkC,
I have read the book you mention and I do not find anywhere any proof that Khun Thaksin indulged in any action that was " alien to or illegal in the West" in his business dealings prior to becoming PM.
If you can provide me with some examples of what you are referring to, I would be more than willing to reconsider my opinion.
Just for your information the latest issue of "TIME - Asia Edition" (dtd. 7th. Feb. 2005 ) carries an analytical article on the performance of Thailand under Khun Thaksin wherein Goldman Sachs is quoted as saying that rural incomes have grown 20% annually over the past 2 years and Morgan Stanley is quoted as saying that GDP growth for Thailand for the period 2000 to 2004 was 22.2% compared to S. Korea at 19.5% ; Malaysia at 17.3% and Taiwan at 10.8% for the same period - So much for the Thais doing everything half-arsed.
