Question is why after firing 100 AK47 bullets he is alive... are those trying to kill him so bad at aiming? All windows were broken and they went near the car and fire on it. Seems he got hurt not from a direct bullet but from a sharpnal (i.e. indirect) as if they aim well NOT to hit him and hitting him was an accident.

PAD LEADER SONDHI LIMTHONGKUL SURVIVES ASSASSINATION BID
BANGKOK, April 17 - Sondhi Limthongkul, leader of the anti-Thaksin People‘s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) survived an assassination attempt when at least three gunmen fired hails of bullets into his car at dawn Friday.
Mr. Sondhi was on his way to his daily morning talkshow programme at ASTV station when the gunmen in a pick-up truck fired at his vehicles tires to stop it at Bangkok's Bangkhunprom intersection.
According to witnesses, the attackers then fired about hundred rounds with an M-16 and an AK-47.
Mr. Sondhi and his secretary were wounded and were sent to Vajira Hospital amid tight security, while his driver was seriously injured and was sent to Mission Hospital.
The attackers escaped from the scene when another car belonging to Mr. Sondhi's followers shot them back.
Dr. Wanchai Charoenchokethavee, director of Vajira Hospital, said that Mr. Sondhi is now in surgery to remove a bullet from his skull.
Mr. Sondhi is a founder of the anti-Thaksin Shinawatra movement which toppled the then premier from power in 2006. Last year his 'Yellow Shirt' protesters staged protests against, what they called, the Thaksin nominee governments by besieging Government House and seizing the country's two main airports.
Meanwhile, Dr. Panitan Wattanayakorn, deputy secretary-general to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesman, said that the assassination may affect the cancellation of the State of Emergency Decree.
Dr. Panitan said Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and security-concerned agencies were informed about the incident and would take this issue for consideration in Friday's Cabinet meeting.
Metropolitan Police Chief Pol.Lt-Gen. Worapong Chewpreecha said that 64 casings of AK-47 cartridges, 16 from an M-16 and 17 SK shell casings were found at the crime scene.
Gen. Worapong said that an investigation was under way to determine the assassination motive. Police initially aimed at Mr. Sondhi's political movement and his personal conflicts. (TNA)

An independent committee to look into the government crackdown on street violence during the Songkran holiday appeared to be on the cards last night as parliament wound down its two-day joint session.

Senator Rosana Tositrakul pushed for a transparent inquiry into opposition claims that protesters were killed in the military operation. She offered to take part in a fact-finding committee.
The senator also stressed the need for legislation to govern public protests and demonstrations.
The legislation would encourage productive public demonstrations, set standards on crowd control measures and prevent gatherings from degenerating into anarchy, she said.
Mrs Rosana's call for an inquiry came as the opposition Puea Thai party used the second day of the debate to present evidence to back its claims that anti-government protesters were killed in the crackdown.
The opposition said scenes of public disorder were staged by the government to justify the use of force. The government denied the accusations and defended its handling of the riots.
Both sides of the House displayed images to counter each other's allegations.
These included Puea Thai MP for Phrae Worawat Ua-apinyakul showing a video clip in which a man in a red shirt, who had his hands tied behind his back, was seen being beaten up by a soldier during a clash at Din Daeng junction. He claimed the man was a guard employed by the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship.
Part of the video clip also featured news reports on two men found dead in the Chao Phaya River. The opposition claimed the men were UDD guards killed during the crackdown.
The Puea Thai MP also tried to play a second video clip but was prevented by House Speaker Chai Chidchob.
Mr Worawat then called a press conference to play both clips to the media.
In the other video clip, a taxi driver identified as Boon said he witnessed deadly scenes at Din Daeng and saw military vehicles full of bodies.

Rosana: Inquiry needs transparency
He claimed to have been beaten unconscious by soldiers. He woke up in a military vehicle which he claimed was carrying dead bodies and jumped off when the vehicle reached Lop Buri province.
Mr Worawat said Boon was being kept in a secret location for his safety and would meet the press when the time was right.
"If his safety is guaranteed, I will reveal the witness. I will wait for a reliable committee to be set up," Mr Worawat said.
Puea Thai MP and UDD leader Jatuporn Prompan said some violence was likely to have been the work of bogus red shirt protesters.
He said he doubted whether genuine red shirt protesters were involved in the seizure of gas tankers, the torching of public buses, the shots fired at a mosque and the shootings in Nang Loeng.
"Today we see several 'red fakes'," Mr Jatuporn said. "A lieutenant-colonel wore a red shirt and mingled with Dr Weng [Tojirakarn] because red shirts are available everywhere."
He called on the House to set up a committee to investigate all accusations against the government. He said he would not call on the prime minister to resign or dissolve the House, and he wanted to see the prime minister prosecuted for murder.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban insisted the government had acted with restraint and transparency in the crackdown.
Mr Abhisit said the government was willing to launch an investigation into Mr Worawat's claims.
He said he had contacted army commander Anupong Paojinda and he agreed to look into the alleged beating.
Mr Suthep denied Mr Jatuporn's allegation that the government orchestrated the violence and he said the demonstrations were not at all peaceful.
He cited the violence at the Interior Ministry where the vehicles of Mr Abhisit and his secretary-general, Niphon Prompan, were savagely attacked. Mr Niphon sustained injuries and was taken to hospital.
He also labelled Mr Jatuporn a terrorist and told him not to distort information and assign blame.
The deputy prime minister said he had a picture of a UDD leader showing red shirt demonstrators a gun seized from Mr Abhisit's security guard.

Could the Army be behind the attack on Sondhi? They do not want strong leaders to make PAD yet another political party (and Sondhi is rich too and has the money to do just that). Plus its good to have this blammed on the "reds"... connect this to the previous news on claims made in the parlament and you will see the pattern....
So now he also said that there were live bullets shot during the riots, but this was for "self defense". OK... so now if some budies pop up this he will say was the result of those attacking the army who had to defend it self and shoot to kill... yes yes we see where this is going...

Three spent cartridges from an M16 assault rifle found at the scene of a dramatic attack on Sondhi Limthongkul last week were from a large lot of bullets assigned to the 9th Infantry Division in Kanchanaburi, Army chief General Anupong Paochinda admitted yesterday. "This lot comprising tens of thousands of rounds are live munitions assigned for livefire training for various units in the 9th Infantry Division," he said. Anupong vowed to hold responsible any Army officer found to have released bullets or given them to gunmen for the attack on the media mogul last Friday.
Responding publicly for the first time to criticism by leaders of the red shirts about the use of live munitions on rioters in the military crackdown over Songkran, Anupong said soldiers were entitled to protect themselves against "any direct threats to their lives or the use of lethal means" by protesters.
"It can't be a fireatwill type of shooting rampage," he said. Use of live munitions in selfdefence had to be done "under rules of engagement, with an order given and in combat formation".
"The use of live munitions must also not cause collateral damage to property or lives of innocent members of the public," Anupong said.
The Army chief gave examples of lethal or direct threats, used by redshirt protesters on April 13: trying to hit troops with unmanned city buses or commandeered taxis. "In these cases, troops are authorised to engage the threats using live munitions under standard procedure," he said.
There were also 17 cartridges fired from an HK33, which is also manufactured by the Army under licence from a German arms producer, but there are no reports on whether these had Army initials engraved on them.

Lawmakers see video clip of beating

Another video clip purportedly showing excessive force used by armed soldiers against a red-shirted protester was shown during the second and final day of the joint House session yesterday, prompting a swift response from Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to look into the matter. The House failed to come up with any meaningful consensus to break the political impasse, as the government and the opposition Pheu Thai Party kept trading accusations and counter-accusations regarding the violence and claims of possible deaths during the April 13-14 failed red-shirt insurrection.
The minute or so footage shown by Pheu Thai MP Vorawat Eaw-apinyakul, representing Phrae, appeared to have been taken before dawn at the Din Daeng intersection on April 13 when the military crackdown began. It showed a red-shirted protester on the floor being cornered by half a dozen soldiers.
The protester was repeatedly kicked and hit with batons about a dozen times by at least three soldiers while another officer who appeared to be of higher rank asked them to stop but to no avail.
Voices heard from the video clip included soldiers telling then man to "Shut up", with another one saying "Shut up you animal! Don't speak" as the senior officer told the soldiers "Don't hit him!" and "Enough! enough!" as more kicking and beating ensued.
The clip was shown with a small box inserted of Abhisit telling the public on TV that the "highest respect for human dignity" had been accorded the protesters in the crackdown.
"Honourable Speaker. Is this not violent?" asked Vorawat. 'They brought the soldiers out and thought it wouldn't turn violent? Look at how the man was beaten up."
Looking displeased, Abhisit quickly told the joint House sitting that there would be an investigation.
"I insist that nobody is comfortable seeing such images. The government must pay attention and will take the pictures into consideration...It's like many other violent incidents such as the G-20 meetings when force was used and there must be an investigation to solve the problem."
Vorawat wasn't finished and went on to produce a still picture of what he claimed to be the same man but without a shirt and with both wrists tied behind him by a blue rope.
He compared it to another picture of one of the two security guards, who he claimed to have been red-shirt guards, who was found floating dead on Chao Phya River.
He said such ropes were used exclusively by the military and the tie-ups were probably the work of the military.
The allegations of deaths was categorically denied by Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban.
Later in the afternoon, another Pheu Thai MP and leader of the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship, Jatuporn Promphan, hit the government with an alleged conspiracy theory.
Jatuporn claimed the hijacked LPG gas tankers parked in front of the King Power shopping mall and Din Daeng areas on April 13 were staged by a figure behind a government coalition party who also commanded the men in blue T-shirts in Pattaya to attack the red shirts.
Jatuporn claimed that the attack on a mosque and the killing of two Nang Lerng residents in Bangkok were also staged by the same politician, who is supporting the government, because the reds would not gain anything from it.
Jatuporn said he believed protesters have been killed by the military, but their relatives dare not report it to the government because it's the very same government which killed their relatives.
"Anyone who kills people who protest to call for democracy is a tyrant... So I will not call for [Abhisit's] resignation because you will later be tried for [ordering] manslaughter."
Other Democrat MPs such as Chamni Sakdiset praised the military for its crackdown with no fatality, however. "This is the first time in |history that the military came out and lives were not lost," he said.

People want riot inquiry, poll confirms

A majority of people questioned in a university poll are in favour of setting up an inquiry into the government's crackdown on ther Songkran street violence.
Just over 87% of those surveyed by Assumption University pollsters said they support the idea of a fact-finding committee to look into the claims by the red-shirts that protesters were killed in the military operation.
On finding solutions to the national crisis, about 64% said removing some cabinet members should help solve the problem, 54% backed a reshuffle of the cabinet and 35% favoured a House dissolution.
About 52% agreed the two-day joint parliamentary debate was of hardly any benefit, but 44% said they benefitted from it.
The pollsters questioned people in 1,436 households in 17 provinces throughout Thailand.

my thai airways flight left LAX on time and landed at Sawarabumi 5 minutes early. encountered no problems at immigration and they actually gave me 1 year on my retirement visa instead of a renegotiable 3 months. I wonder if that was a mistake or a new policy?
the ride into sukhumvit was as boring as usual - lots of traffic and toll booths. never saw a red shirt all the way in. if fact, there is more conversation about the "red shirt rebellion" in BTF than there seems to be on the streets of bangkok.
the internet is currently being setup in my condo, so I writing this at a free wfi spot located in "the huntsman club - the basement of the Landmark hotel. there are quite a few germans and limeys here at the present time - drinking and talking about everything except the "red shirt problem". TG's and pussy seem to be the popular topic.
i recommend not cancelling your trip to bkk. the tg:farang ratio seems to favor the tg's and all the bkk farangs could use your help.

scary day - walked home from thai language class and soi 13 was blocked-off and full of police cars. there was a crowd around sukhumvit suites and I had to be identified to get in.
i rode up the elevator with 2 police officers and they got off at the 9th floor. the hall was full of noise, people and police. I continued to my apt. and decided to stay in for the rest of the day. my maid just showed up and told me a boy committed suicide on the 9th floor - room 69.
there are more than red shits to worry about............
