Also its funny to note that despite this country being much more poor than Thailand one will never see there all the scams that are to be found in Thailand, and no flock of prostitutes everywhere either...

... maybe not so funny... I believe it relates to cultural values... a fair generalization might be that Thai cultural values's are inferior to Nepalese cultural values.

... you've been around, Madfrog... what you think?... is reasonable?

There are two issues here referred to by Madfrog : one, the scams in Thailand and two, the prostitution.

Do note that Nepal is not free of its share of scams and corruption and security inadequacies. They are not so well known simply because Nepal is not economically very significant on the map. The political situation is highly volatile. The Royal Family members of Nepal were gunned down a few years ago and more recently the reigning king was deposed and a communist tilting government took over. When the mobs go footloose there, they are not far different from the reds that rampaged in Bangkok.

There is "adequate" prostitution in Nepal (as anywhere else, for that matter). The problem for Thailand, when it gets judged by the average viewer, is that there is an embarassment of riches here. Nepal does not have as many because it is not a big tourist draw. Actually no country can hold a candle to Thailand when it comes to tourists engaged in the pursuit or exploration of Kama Sutra.

There are no morality issues here. The Thai approach to sex, as I understand it, is simply matter of fact and lively -- and, of course, commerce has developed as a result. To attribute "inferior cultural values" is IMHO to miss the point. All cultures on earth -- with due respect -- dwell in glass houses.

The western value system is a con- devised to divide more social power between woman and homosexual men-

Its called Christianity-

Think about it-

Both groups lack Power so you devise a system that calls into question the Basic natural urges of men and peppers it with sin and evil unles err your married -

Dress up in capes and gowns spin some bullshit f*** the "little boys up the arse " as the clergy do for centuries and have woman control the mating game-

What a f***ing con that was-

Luckily people are seeing it more for what it is-

Thais are far more culturally superior in this respect-

Peg in Hole is universal-

Prostitution is in many forms a woman and her vanity selling her charms to who she will gain from-

Marriage is the pimp-

Thailand is way more honest in the tolerance of calling a spade a spade

And thai men dont allow woman to control them to the extent western men have

I do business both in Thailand and Nepal

My experience is that generaly :
- In Thailand people are lazzy, liar and will scam you given any opportunity, many of the thing they do make you wonder if they are retarded or if they do it just to piss you off.
They tell you something will be ready in two weeks, well...most of the time if not all the time it is NOT ready or if its ready it is NOT made to specifications, lots of things you give them get "lost", just a job done as quickly and as cheaply as they can, they know you are caught by time and dont care for a return customer.
Anyway you are "only a farang" so whatever you do it is f*** YOU VERY MUCH.

- In Nepal people are nice, honnest and hardworking, and so far except seing a few exhorbitant prices asked in Thamel I never seen a scam.
If you order something and they tell you it will be ready in two weeks, well..two weeks later it is ready and most of the time things are very nicely made.
They DO value return customers and make every effort to keep you happy even when problems arise.
Also as long as you treat people with respect you are regarded as a human being and treated as an equal.

Guess where I prefer to work?

Also

I tried to do humanitarian work in Thailand, as a farang administration was making my life as complicated as they could, and also the Thai working with us were stealing anything they could touch, lying and overcharging us on any bill, nevermind about us doing this to help other Thai people and providing them a job in the process...
I gave up...

I do help to take care of an orphanage in Nepal and so far never got any problem at all with the Nepalese who work with us. They are doing their very best, dont steal, dont act like retards and are appreciative of the effort we do to help the childrens of their country...

But ok, Thailand beat Nepal hands down on the avalaibility of girls and on all modern infrastructures. In Nepal things like electricity, water or a half decent road are still only dreams in most of the country...and about girls, yes the Nepali girls look really really nice, but all the ones I met were "good girls", the language barrier was there and to be seen speaking to a foreigner is allready sort of a problem to them...and again if "adequate" P4P is avalaible they did a fine job at hidding it.

As you point out, madfrog, that is your experience. It is good for you that you have had such a nice experience doing business in Nepal, a hilly kingdom that at one time was such a great tourist attraction.

Walk down Sukhumvit or Khao San Road in Bangkok, or Patong Beach Road in Phuket. You would see scores of Indian looking lads hailing you into tailoring shops or eateries, or selling CDs on the roadside. They are Nepali boys actually. Hard working, sincere lads. Have a talk with them and they will tell you that since they left Nepal and migrated to Thailand to earn a livelhiood, their lives have actually turned for the better. It seems incredible to us tourists actually since these guys do not appear to be too well off and are apparently living with several others in a cramped room and their earnings come off the street. But they will tell you that life in Thailand is nevertheless better for them than it was back in their hometown. Ask them if they feel cheated or discriminated against in Thailand.

The truth is that Nepal as an economic engine is a failure, just a few notches ahead of Myanmar, and is unable to feed its own young population, driving them in droves to Thailand and India where, they tell you, they are happier. Life there isn't perfect for them, it is just better.

I know fairly well how the life of the average Nepali is, and its not a pretty sight...really even the worst Moo Barn in Thailand is still almost Las Vegas compared to the suburbs of Kathmandu

Still the Nepali keep much more dignity in their misery than the average Thai...i been to visit many famillies living in places where you wont keep a dog to punish him (been invited to eat with them often, also got to see the places where they manufacture the stuff they sell, they make marvels from nothing!)...never once did a felt threatened even in the worst slums, never once did I get an offer to f*** their daughter for money...

In similar places in Thailand..ah well...

I know a few Nepali in BKK and they do make good money by working hard, not by scamming and cheating.

Report from Bangkok Post dated saturday 27 November 2010 :-

Thailand rates highly in expat survey
========================

Thailand's friendly factor figures highly among expatriates planning to relocate to other countries, according to the Expat Explorer 2010 online survey sponsored by HSBC Bank International.

Conducted by a third-party research firm between April and June, the survey of 4,127 expats from more than 100 countries found that the five countries where it was easiest to make friends with the local people are Bermuda, Bahrain, Thailand, South Africa and Hong Kong, while Europe was the hardest region to make friends: Holland led the list followed by Germany, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Belgium.

In addition to the friendliness, Thailand for the second year running was the most romantic destination, with two-thirds of single expats having found a local partner since relocating, followed closely by Spain.

Expatriates also placed Thailand third on the list for smooth relocation process, after South Africa and Canada. The process includes the ease of setting up their finances, healthcare, accommodation, utilities and travelling around locally, while the three most difficult countries were India, Qatar and Russian Federation.

Thailand also received top score for quality of life for expatriates retiring there while India placed last, their reason being choice of food, local diet and healthcare.

Overall, nearly half of expats currently living in Thailand plan to stay on, with most of them having already been here five years or more.

"The results highlight that while expats might initially be drawn to certain countries for career progression and earning potential, those that provide a good quality of life are more likely to encourage long term settlement among expats," said the survey.
