I see what you mean for being appreciated for liking culture, and not only interested in sex. They also appreciate you for liking sex (ie appreciating the beauty of their women).
I have encounted the opposite though as well. Not so much openly... but the looks you get when with a girl... attitude from service staff... and overheard conversations about farangs and Thai women. There definately is some contempt (?) out there - very well hidden, and rarely shown.
Dont take too much for granted.

T-U, I am still disgusted when I remember it. Thus, I am ashamed to admit in public what I saw. I would tell you next time we meet in person.
Arc, what I didn't mention in my previous post was that those colleagues were women. The next day they were nicer and took me -along with the husband of one of them to a MP. The husband and I went, while the two ladies waited for us nearby. Wow! I thought that was very forward-thinking of these two girls.

They were women! Well, if they were used to new colleagues coming into the office and asking them straight off about Patpong, it goes to show just how crass some farangs in LOS can be. I suspect that to come across as an 'acceptable' farang, all you really need is a set of basic social skills two notches above Quasimodo's.

Oh sure. My own view, though, that this is most likely to surface when farangs behave in a way which Thais find inappropriate and/or offensive. You know - swaggering down Suk with a couple of BGs in tow and an arrogant "I own the place" look on your face. Or rolling up at some 5-star joint or (worse) upmarket social function with an Isaan BG you've dressed up to the nines in the foolish hope that no-one will notice. A friend of mine who did this noticed little amiss at the time, but got some very stern words afterwards.
So far as that's concerned, I think there's more likely to be a genuine non-meeting of minds between Thai class-consciousness and farang egalitarianism than there is over the question of whether a guy (of whatever race) needs his R&R. The boundaries between 'proper' and 'improper' behaviour may be rather different from back home, but they certainly exist - and I haven't noticed Thais being overly inclined to take prisoners. My own take on this is that if you live here, you outwardly conform, whatever you think of Thai attitudes in private.
Worst example of 'bad' farang behaviour I ever saw was in the BTS, when a young American guy was all over his GF - fondling her butt and practically French kissing her. I was astonished that ANY Thai girl would submit to this in such a public place, but when she opened her mouth, it was clear she was Filipina or something. The Thais in the carriage were all gawping at this pair with anger and disgust written all over their faces - nothing hidden about their contempt at all on that occasion.

When I go out with local thai friend. When they see a farang with an attractive thai girl, I could see and sense a degree of contempt with hint of jealousy. However, when they see farang with a ugly BG, they just laugh. I guess like everyone else, one only react when you have what they want.

i dont care about that stuff any more. I have had hundreds. Taken an issaan girl to a function, met and felt reactions. If you like someone, and she is sweet and good in your heart > Follow it. Way I see it is thais can buy into their own stuff, you dont have to.
