I had a flight on ANA, set to leave 9 Dec. When I first called then, they said "We're sticking to the letter of the fare rules: no reroute, no changes, no refunds before 8 Dec. and then only if the airport hasn't opened. If you depart the US, and get stuck in Narita, you pay the hotel until we can fly into BKK. No exceptions, no reroutes." Then, two days later, they offer refunds without penalty for flights up to 15 Dec., but with refund time from 30 to 60 days!

I called Priceline, and had them change me to Singapore, same flights on the first two legs, and the last three (home), but $116 difference, and $103 change fee to ANA, and a $30 fee to Priceline to buy Shatner a few pair of XL Jockey shorts..

So, I will be spending a couple of days in Singapore, flying to Phuket, and then working my way to BKK via the Gulf coast. I'm glad that there's no pressing business to take care of in Bangkok; my heart goes out to those who missed meetings, lost money, and have been generally screwed by this mess.

It was interesting watching the Singapore tickets price being driven up: when I first looked, it was $1167 SAN-LAX-NRT-SIN, and BKK-NRT-LAX-SAN, but immediately shot up to $1366, and before I could book it, it was at $1401. All in a matter of minutes. Lot's of last-minute re-planning, I guess...

Expect to be in BKK around the 18th.

Good luck all.

When the airport fiasco finally finishes it looks like there will be more bar closures because there will be even more elections.

The taxi drivers are started to piss and moan about the shut down and no business. All the Taxi fairs to the airport gone, bread and butter for them or should I say rice and somtom.

I'm in a 5 star hotel my room is the only occupied room on the floor. Was able to negotiate room rate that equals my travel insurance daily rate. Free food, booze and nice petite bg couldn't be better.

Obviously PAD is loosely organised with no clear leader.
So it is like an out of control monster.
I think PAD made a grave mistake occupying the two airports.
It IS a TERRORIST act, even though they have not physically hurt the tourists. All premier national airports in any country are protected areas. The police cannot allow anyone to just take over the airport flight control tower.

Then again, PAD is now hoping that the Court will annul the PPP. Because there is no other way the PAD can leave the airports without losing face.

If the PPP survives the Court, then it should let the PAD stay as long as they want in the airports...for up to 10 years, if they wish....until the rich backers run out of funds. Until the Thai citizens whose livelihoods were shattered by the airport closure lose their patience.

PAD will chalk up lots of bad PR as time goes by.

Oh, maybe PAD wants to take over Poseidon and Utopia too.

Well, my travel agent just rang and told me that my Beaver Air flight has been cancelled on 9th December from LHR.
BR flying on the 10th but flight full.
I need to speak to Eva or my agent, I think seats will be available outbound for days up to about 16th, but they also may not fly, also Eva may want more money.
I have been told I can have a refund so I may do that, watch this space.

Are you sure your travel insurance will cover this? There is usually a clause exempting them from coverage for delays caused by civil unrest...

1 killed, 22 injured in bomb attack at Don Mueang
By The Nation

An assailant fired a grenade into the inbound passenger terminal building of the Don Mueang Airport early Tuesday, killing one protester and injuring 22 others.
Five of them were severely injured in the attack at 00:15 am Tuesday morning.

Guards of the People's Alliance for Democracy said they saw an attack on the Don Mueang Tollway who sped off in a vehicle to the direction of Rangsit area after the attack.

The explosion caused turmoil inside the terminal where protesters were sleeping. They woke up and ran in panic.

Protesters and PAD guards said the grenade, believed to be an M79, pieced broke a glass window pane of the terminal and exploded inside the terminal.

Two injured protesters were rushed to the General Hospital, 7 to Bhumibhol Hospital and 14 to Mongkut Watana Hospital.

Ronnachai Chaisri, 29, from Songkhla province's Sabayoi district, died on his way to the Bhumiphol hospital.

Three severely-injured protesters at the Bhumiphol are Prasong Kongprasutr, 55, Somsak Chaisuwan 46 and Wijai Wijan, 43. They were hit by bomb shrapnel on their abdomen and received urgent surgeries to save their life.

Two injured protesters at the Central General are in critical condition. They are Phanchawee Suphatpong, 66, and Piyachart Daengpuangpaibul, 30. Phanchawee was hit at her headd while Piyachart at his knee.

Kriangkrai Piayu, a guard from Nakhon Sawan, said he saw a man waling on the Don Mueang Tollway when he heard the explosion.

The man then sped off in a vehicle.

"The attacker is very inhumane to attack the innocent people. He should have attacked us, guards, instead," Kriangkrai said.

A protester said he saw a flash of light from the direction of the tollway and a window pane was smashed and then the explosion followed.

The attack came after the PAD deserted and ended its occupation of the Government House for security reasons, saying it would be safer for protesters to rally at the Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi airports.

Gentlemen: The Nation has reported that the Thai Charter Court has dissolved the PPP & Matchima Thipataya Party, banning it's executive board members for 5 yrs. Will PAD retreat now ?

Of course not - they said they wanted the PM to resign. If the party is dissolved, and the PM is fired, thusly, he has not technically resigned.

These guys will stay at the airport forever - or until December 5th...
