I've changed my Xmas / NY plans, going to HK instead -- in my case, purposefully so as to not drop $$ on Thailand.
Oh no, now all of your "fans" are going to come to Thailand to celebrate.

The charge of terrorism wont stick even though Sondhi Limthongkul, Somkiat Pongpaiboon, Pipop Thongchai, Suriyasai Katasila, Panthep Puapongpan, Samran Rodpet, Sirichai Maingarm, Sawit Kaewwan, Saranyoo Wongkrachang and Maleerat Kaewka are all fully responsible for the disruption.

It has been a highly organised and militarily co-ordinated campaign, with transport, food, medical supplies and back-up services provided for the so-called protestors.

Imagine the House of Representatives or the houses of Parliament being occupied by protestors and the Army and Police refusing to move against them.

This is a slight reminder of just how thin the ice is here. And I know how we, as mongers and ordinary tourists must feel at the disruption to our plans and the loss of money and opportunity.

But let's just think of this group of 'protestors' who have damaged the economy of Thailand, lost millions of baht per day for the country, made prices of everything to inevitably rise, stopped the import and export trade, discouraged foreign investment, forced many, many Thai men, women and children to lose their jobs and expect an accolade from the people of Thailand for doing so.

On top of that, they threaten the virtually unborn fragile form of democracy that was attempting to breathe some life of its own in the face of corruption and election rigging with instant death by promoting the idea of denying each Thai of his or her political rights.

Maybe it was terrorism as well as treason.
In my mind, even though they protectively adopted the yellow T-shirts, the King ought to see them charged with treason, for they have damaged his image and have done great injury to the Thai people.................all under the protective arms of the Army and the Police.

I think a few heads should roll for this.

I wonder if a charge of lèse majesté would stick against them, seeing as how the PAD dragged the royal house into their conflict...?

Wow Joe: I think that was some of the most cogent and well developed thinking I've seen expressed on this forum. I just wish I had your insight and writing ability. Good job brother ! I'm going to do my part and not let any PAD supporters blow me this trip. wj

JW,although it is comforting to think that the king is a democrat, that he supports the concept of universal suffrage, believes that the representatives voted into parliament by the majority of electors should form the government, and that the choice of the majority should be supported by the military and the police, recent events suggest this may not be so.It is reasonable to think that a democrat would not support a political party whose policy is that only 30% of parliamentary seats be chosen by the people as a whole, and that the rest be appointed by a select number of the "right " people made up the educated and wealthy elite. One would think that a democrat, who has spoken out in the past to condemn the excesses of military rule following a coup, would have something to say about a political party which proclaims it is acting to support him against a government which it says, without any cogent evidence, is plotting to do away with him,and then, quite illegally, occupies government offices for 3 months, and closes down 2 airports for a week, all with the support or connivence of the military and police.Certainly one would think that a democrat would not allow his wife to attend the funeral of a supporter of that party who was killed while either illegally occupying government offices,or demonstrating in support of that occupation.
