Ahist money does not disappear, as FM observed, I suspect that the percentage of GNP generated by the P4P industry is minimal. A lion share will go to the major operators who will probably put most of it in Foreign Investments. As for the small part that is passed to the girls, along with the food/lodging money spent on by the Sex tourist, a good advertising campaign will be able to bring other types of tourists to LOS (see what HK has done in the last 30 days). All the government has to do is ease up on PRC visas, get the PRC to allow individual tourists as well as tour groups (HK & Singapore has done this recently), and start raking in the loud, high spending Chinese tourist and his extended family. The loss from sex tourism would be made up in a year. Do not get me wrong, I am not against the industry. I am just trying to open eyes to the real possiblity that while not totally gone, the P4P industry will be radically changed and probably much more expensive. Huey P Long once said: "..outlaw alcohol, hell no! Legalize it and tax the hell out of it; just don't let the church going mamas see you drink it.. " or words to that effect.

mr. China Sailor.........a small point to your statement...."All the government has to do is ease up on PRC visas, get the PRC to allow individual tourists as well as tour groups (HK & Singapore has done this recently)." It is actually the Chinese government that allows its citizens to travel individually or not. I, with my western passport, am able to enter Hong Kong visa free. However if you are a Chinese national, even though Hong Kong is technically part of China (SAR), you must have an entry visa. Since Sept. 1 only Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen residents with the proper residency card, may acheive an easier access. There are at present 19 countries that China allows its citizens to travel to in tourist groups. Other countries can be accessed for business purposes by letter of invitation, or for Government business. Those conditions and rules are subject to change very quickly.

FM, This is off topic but there is a new program in the PRC where they will ease up on visa's for individuals and groups. I do not know what the 'quid pro quo' is but in HK last weekend it was overrun by PRC visitors (a jump of 150% according to the news). They expect a huge rise for Singapore, HK, and Tiawan during the October 'Golden Week'. Also my Chinese GF does business in Thailand for a GZ company. She says it is easier for her to get a visa to Manila than to get one to BKK. And until last month Singapore was out of the question without joining a PRC orgainzed tour. (Thank god that changed, she will be here in October!)

Exactly, And that is the deal that LOS might cut with the PRC to rebuild tourism in the post P4P era. Cheers

Mr China Sailor (and Mr. Rtb who I think already knows this stuff.).........the rules for China are easily avoided if you know what you are doing. My Chinese girl gets visa's to Thailand dead easy, and legally and travels only with me, not a group. When you live in China all things have an explanation. Some of your facts are a little off center. This is due to asking a question of an official, or hearing what someone elses experience was, and thinking that is the answer. The law in China is decided only by one official person, at that time, on that day. Get by the first guy, that's the problem(for visas). I do not think that China will generously try to provide Chinese citizens free access to Thailand unless there is some benefit to China. But enough of China.
