Maybe it is better to think outside the box. That the P4P scene will be closing earlier will not affect the Thai too much. This scene is often (?) owned by farang and surely mostly frequented by farang.
I was under the impression that the farang p4p scene is only a small fraction of the overall (larger) thai p4p scene. Maybe someone can clarify that one for us?
People on this forum and others have said that the new move isnt aimed at tourists and there may be zoning of entertainment districts frequented by tourists to allow later closing times? My feeling is that this wont happen as from what Ive seen and read the boys in brown seem to concentrated on tourist concentrated entertainment centres and not predominantly thai areas but who knows?

Interesting on Today's morning Thai talk show (In Thai) they had a running call-in poll and only 35 % were in favor of this measure while 65% were against it.
If there is one thing the Thai's like is their partying. Shutdown the karoake's that normally open at 10:00PM and stay open until 4:00 AM and this will be the begining of the end of the current political party.
Chuwit like Arnold has picked a good time to run for governer. If this measure passes, I go on record for projecting a win for Chuwit and it will be Thai sandwiches for everybody.

Well apparently the New Proposal has been postponed. Purachai is to investigate the matter further and follow-up at the Mar 2004 cabinet meeting. PM Thaksin seems to support for enforcement of the age limit for buying alcohol. I think the quick backlash from the Thai population has help delay this decision.
I think the PM saw momemtum being gained by Chuwit on this matter who has been under the radar for a few months and since Purachai has excused himself from running for BKK governor they do not have a strong candidate for governor. Why rock the boat at this time.
So it is safe to drink again.

Ireland liberalised their drinking hours (closing time used to be between 11-midnight depending on day of week, time of year etc)
The liberalisation seems to have caused problems as people drank longer etc but one of the main problems was that Niteclubs did (and still do) serve until 2-3am (sometimes later). So before at midnite, people came out of the pubs and wandered of to niteclube in different locations. Now they fall out onto the street at 3am, with nowhere else to go, so you get a lot of people (drunk) htting the streets at the same time. In areas of high pub concentrations (eg temple Bar in Dublin) the is regularily violence at this time - What does this have to do with this thread? - not a lot except that when a system isnt broken - dont fix it

For some strange reason the Daily Express in the UK had an full page article today called "The End Of The Party"
I cannot imagine what need there is for a full page spread about a country 8,0000km away changing it's licensing laws by one hour.
The article was written by an Andrew Drummond, I have a feeling this name should ring a bell. It had a few inaccuracies, but was written as though this small man had some sort of agenda....doesn't have a voice in Thailand so he had to write and Anti Thaksin piece in the UK.
Couldn't see the point of it really....
