Dr.L. For one, I am not sure it is actually illegal even under the circumstances you describe. Any reference to it somewhere?

I do not know of any visa application procedure that states where you have to be relative to where your passport is.

Anyway, an example where it would be perfectly fine to do it even if you are in Thailand at the time your passport goes overseas is the following:

- You have dual nationality -and thus two passports.
-You are already in Thailand and you entered with passport A
- You sent passport B to a Thai consulate overseas (or to a friend who then mails it to the consulate on your behalf).
-You get the new visa in passport B
-You do a visa run to say Singapore
-You exit with passport A
-You come back and use passport B with your new visa

What have you done that is illegal? How would this be different from you living in a country that has no Thai consulate -say Guatemala- and you sending your passport to the Thai consulate in Los Angeles and have them send it back to you in Guatemala?

Meat, as a B citizen you were not in Thailand anyway. Why would Thai authorities confiscate passports sent by courier. What if my dual citizen daughter left her country B passport here and I am to send it now to the mother (with whom my daughter is at the moment). Are you saying that Thai authorities will not let my daughter's passport travel to join her where she is now?

See Dr.L.? Even if you are here in can be done. So I think. However, I could be wrong and you could be right. Thus to clarify, I respectfully request from you to please show me a reference where it says that sending a passport from thailand for the purpose of getting a Thai visa stamped in the pasportrt is illegal. This is for the benefit of those who not wishing to break the law, still want to save themselves a trip to a Thai consulate.

Dr.L. Thanks in advance for the reference.

1 - Dual Citizenship? I think a little far fetched, because these cases are not applicable for most if not all members of BTF.

Furthermore, as you asked me respectfully, I've done a little research on thaivisa.com and thaiimmigration.com

Reference 1 - Reasons not to do it (without the question being illegal or not)

http://www.thaivisa.com/393.0.html

Reference 2 - thai immigration law -section 11

'Persons entering into or departing the Kingdom must enter and leave by way of immigration check points, designated landing stations or areas and in accordance to the prescribed time as published in the Government Gazette by the Minister.'

http://www.thaiimmigration.com/law.html#chapter2

Reference 3 - Popup immigration

'DO NOT BELIEVE THOSE WHO CLAIM THAT THEY CAN ASSIST YOU TO GET IMMIGRATION STAMPS WITHOUT ACTUAL TRAVELING IN AND OUT OF THE KINGDOM. SUCH AN ACT IS ILLEGAL AND YOU WILL BE PROSECUTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH IMMIGRATION LAW.'

http://www.thaiimmigration.com/popup.html

Anyway, as I have asked earlier, how are you going to utilize your visa? Can you imagine the look of the immigration officer when he goes through your passport and you have already a visa BEFORE leaving the country?

If this procedure was legal (for those INSIDE Thailand) no more visa runs are necessary and you saved us 1'000's of baht!

Well, you often have a visa before leaving the country. And yes, they are not surprised. I have in the past had a tourist visa -one entry- valid for 6 months that I did not use when first coming -I used my 30 days prerogative. Then left with my already stamped visa that I had not used. No funny looks at all.

On you saying: "Dual Citizenship? I think a little far fetched, because these cases are not applicable for most if not all members of BTF." Alow me to respectfully knock you of that tree, because I for one have dual citizenship. So there you go, I didn't need to go far to porve that statement doesn't hold. I respectfully suggest that you do not judge all by your own condition.

By the way, with this procedures you do not save yourself the so-called visa-run (going out and coming back in). But you save yourself having to go to the consulate to get the visa.

By the way, Dr. L. to you as a favor, I may be willing to help you do it and show you how it is really done -not using any third party services but doing directly. I am going to do it for myself soon -I have done it before. So if you want to get in touch with me directly, we can split the cost of the courier charges. Hmmm maybe not. Maybe I just show my passports. That should be enough to convince you how it can be done. I was trying to give the info here in a general way, and let people find their ways, but disbelievers like you who are so cocksure while still being wrong can only be convinced that they are wrong by having them hit the wall; then once their head hurts they believe that the bricks were solid.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Visas

British passport holders are given entry for 30 days, without a visa, on arrival. If you need a visa for longer periods contact: Thai representation in the UK. Overstaying the period of entry originally given by the Immigration Officer, without the proper authority, is a serious matter and you can be held in detention until a fine is paid, currently 200 Baht a day with a maximum fine of 20,000 Baht. The only legal way of obtaining a new visa, entry permit or extension of stay is from a Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate, an Immigration Officer at a point of entry into Thailand or one of the Immigration Offices around the country. Visas issued by visa shops, travel agents or by any other means are likely to be illegal and lead to criminal proceedings. There have been several arrests of British nationals who have had illegal stamps in their passports. If you are arrested on these charges you could face between one and ten years imprisonment and/or a large fine. You would also be prohibited from entering Thailand again. Entry to Thailand is normally refused if you have a passport with less than six months validity.

Smegma > I know exactly what you are talking about re 2 passports and the postal way, but this is illegal, and you know it is, why else are you trying to make it appear the passport was sent locally by sending to your freind back home for them to send onto the embassy ? the reason is because you know if its airmail they will reject it, and they will reject it because it is illegal. That said I know many that use this method and so far have not had problems, but doesnt mean it will be like that forever.

Here's the story on my latest visa. I DHL'ed my passport in country to our office in Riyadh. They took it, along with birth certificate, divorce certificate, custody proof for daughter, shanod showing house in my daughter's name and copy of the blue book. I got a one year multiple non-immigrant "O" visa in 24 hours.

And my daughter has Thai and US passports. We left Thailand last month on her US passport as Thai Immigration said we needed to show her departure on that passport. When we return in two weeks, I was told we can use her Thai passport to enter the country and will use that in the future when entering and departing Thailand.

This is my most recent experience.
