I purchased it at Silom Complex in the basement hidden Bookazine but gotta start reading this book yet,wish to find some time soon,but then again is an evergreen...i suggested it to some bg's too!

80% of farangs like this book.
Reasonably good read. I found it entertaining.

The only negative review I have seen was in the Nation yesterday (Monday) by Paul Dorsey who seemed to be more upset at the very existance of such a book rather than its actual content. It was pure subjective crap and didn't come up with any real reasons for not liking it. The mere fact that a farang would enter a relationship with a bar girl obviously was too much for him to comprehend.
A google search on this journalist reveals very little except an equally scathing review of the Eagles concert last year. The man clearly has no taste.
Actually the free copy of PD was sent to Phil MacDonnald at The Nation (the man who is trying to become the new Trink) but he has failed to mention it.
The real Trink in the Post loved it and the Pattaya mail has reviewed it twice this year! Also PD should be mentioned in the next Big Chill magazine.
If it did become a movie....any suggestions as to which forum member is best suited to play Pete ???

Of the books I have read on the 'Thai-scene' Private Dancer is way out there at number two !
Number Two ?
Number One was written in 1956 ! All the scams jealousies, lies are the same as Private Dancer although in effect a different story it is still about a Farang/Thai relationship with a girl who worked in the 'Bolero' Bar.
In 1956 !
The main protagonist even flew to Copenhagen to get the SAS/Thai Douglas DC-6 service to Bangkok where his company had sent him.
I really enjoyed Private Dancer and I like the novel idea of adding Thai recipies to the narrative, although I understand that was not too popular with some people?
Just pipping it at the post is 'A Woman of Bangkok' by Jack Reynolds purely because it was written in 1956 yet could have been written yesterday. Except for no BTS and he flew in a DC-6 not a Jumbo.
Both books should be mandadtory reading BEFORE one visits Thailand. I wish Private Dancer had been written in early 1998 and I had been given a copy ?

PD is reviewed in both Farang and Big Chilli this month.
Also glad to say that the book is selling very well and a second re-print will be required next month. Hopefully by then I will have found all the mistakes !!!
A re-print launch party is also on the cards.....
