The ban on afternoon sales has been in effect for over one year.
I got shot down at Lotus at Christmas last year when I wanted to buy a bottle to take to a dinner. I read the sign the girl showed me and, sure enough, she couldn't sell it to me.

No.
I believe they are trying to get rid of hopelessly drunk and embarassing farang making a spectacle of themselves in public places. I actually believe that if a lot of the idiots populating the usual places would act a lot more discreetely, or rather, behaved themselves with more common sense, then the gov't would not care.
I guess the common sense rules of flying under the radar have escaped the unwashed farang masses, living it up on booze.
well if that is really a goal it would seem a silly way to go about it these "thug " farang will still come to and live in Thailand because the beer will still be here, it will still be cheap, and the girls will still be here and they will still be cheap and the flights from europe will still be here and will still be the cheapest in Asia.
What is will do is annoy and possibly even turn off many of the 'higher end farangs' individuals thoses who enjoy a more urbane existence and who have much more spending power and who add to thailand and it's economy through their skills and experience and the business and commerce they bring for their companies or through their own entrepreneurialism.
You will still see tatooed bloaters with football shirts in pattaya acting like twats.

My point was if we DID NOT see those kind of botom dwellers, then the morality police in the gov't would not care as much - these farang do a lot more to act embarassing, and thus bring embarassment to Thai society, than the local drunks. THEY are the ones attracting unfavorable attention to Thailand via the foreign media writing about Thailand.
None of what you said detracts from what I meant.

yep, but there's a way around it, read the fine print, cases are available for sale. So you can't get one cold beer, but you can get 24 can or 12 BIG bottles of warm beer ;-}
