I had a soda water, you had a beer and you had your first cigarette for the day, an L M menthol, one of mine. We were the only ones in the place around 2pm.

Once evening sets in, Cosmos becomes a great lively place with very friendly staff. BTW I have no interest in this place, just a bar I enjoy going to in Patpong to have a drink and play.

Weatherman warns of Songkran storms
========================
It's going to be a wet Songkran for many people - and not just because of water-throwing.

The Meteorological Department warned today that it expects heavy rain and some storms later this week, particularly in the North and Northeast. The Songkran warning said downpours were likely in all of upper Thailand, from the Gulf to the northern borders, including in Bangkok.

Southern winds currently prevail, and are carrying water from the Gulf and South China Sea. But scattered rain is also forecast in the country's southern regions over the next couple of days.

Beginning on Songkran on Thursday, a high pressure ridge from China will cover the country's warmer northeastern region, causing rainstorms but also hail, according to the weather bureau.

Hot season turns cool, and wet
==================
It's summertime, and the weather is -- well, cooler than expected as cold winds from China have brought unseasonal rain and somewhat cooler weather.

The director general of the Meteorological Department said Monday that the rains would arrive sooner and would stay longer this year as the country has been under the influence of cold winds from China and the seasonal monsoon.

Suparerk Tansriratanawong said all regions except southern Thailand would be affected, during which time the rains would continue until May and the seasonal rainy season will arrive sooner than usual.

Thailand has seen higher than expected levels of rain during this hot summer month, which Mr Suphareuk said was quite unusual, especially in upper Thailand.

He said however, the overcast weather would not cause flooding but he warned persons living in or near potentially unstable buildings to be watchful.

Report from The Nation dated Wednesday 19 April 2006 :-

'Sunday the year's hottest'
============================================================
Sunday ( 23 April 2006 ) will be the year's hottest day, while Chiang Mai and Kanchanaburi will suffer the most with temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius, a Meteorological Department official said yesterday.

The hottest day will be caused by the sun staying at its highest point for the
longest period over Bangkok, and would also increase temperatures nationwide, especially in Chiang Mai and Kanchanaburi, said the department's Weather Watch Office director Dulyapol Pisalayabutr.

Meteorological Department director-general Suparerk Tansriratanawong said Thailand, except the southern region, had been under the influence of cold winds from China and predicted the rainy season would arrive sooner than usual - and stay longer this year.

Anon Sanitwong na Ayutthaya, an expert on weather changes at Chulalongkorn University, said the world now faced the "La Nina" syndrome - unusually cold ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific - which will bring more rain and a longer rainy season. La Nina is forecast to last for between 18 months and two years in Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries.

Puss 69,
You talking about bad weather on 23 April. Huh your joking. Down here at Pattaya it has been raining for the past 5 - 7 days by dickhead farangs and Thais with water pistols in the name of Songkran.

And they say there is a water shortage in LOS, dont think so. The Pattaya streets are running at least 1-2" of water every day.

Hail alerts for upper Thailand
==========================================================
All parts of Thailand are forecast to face downpours of rain this week and the northern and northeastern regions are particularly warned to be well prepared for summer storms with possible hailstones.

The Meteorological Department said in a statement released on Monday that the country's nothern, northeastern and eastern regions could face summer storms with heavy downpours of rain and possible hailstones over the next couple of days.

These are because a high pressure ridge from southern China are covering the warmer regions.

Downpours of rain in the country's northern. central and southern regions throughout this week would also be caused by a low pressure ridge moving northward from the South China Sea through Thailand's southern Andaman Sea, said the weather bureau.

Residents in all the affected areas are warned to be well prepared for possible floods and damages of assets.

Meanwhile, heavy downpours of rain were reported in all areas in the country's northeastern Ubon Ratchathani Province on Monday,

This led to inundations in some areas, causing a traffic snarl for hours before the flooding receded, according to a local TNA reporter.

Fisherman in the Andaman Sea were advised to exercise extreme caution because of strong winds and high seas. The department said the cyclone, named ''Mala,'' had formed in the Bay of Bengal, with its eye 500km southwest of Rangoon.

Packing maximum winds of 120kph, Mala is moving in the northeasterly direction at 15km/hr and is expected to hit land in Burma tonight.

Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Tak, Uthai Thani and Kanchanaburi should be prepared for heavy downpours.

Cyclone hits Burma, heavy rain in Thailand
============================================================

Thailand's Meteorological Department warned local residents in eight northern and western provinces to brace for heavy downpours and possible flash floods due to tropical cyclone Mala, as it moves into Thailand from Burma.

The storm made landfall in Burma, then quickly lost intensity, the Burmese meteoroligical department said. There was heavy rain today in Rangoon, where clogged drains failed to cope with the downpour, causing 30cm floods on some downtown streets, residents told Reuters.

Mala's power abated as it crossed the coast of southern Rakhine state near Gwa township, Meteorology and Hydrology Department Director-General Tun Lwin told Reuters.

The Meteorology Department of Thailand said flash floods are forecast in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Rai, Tak, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Udon Thani, Kanchanaburi, and Ratchaburi.

Two to three-metre high waves are expected in the Andaman sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Meteorological Department director general Suparerk Tansriratanawong warned that some districts in Chiang Mai will be hardest hit with heavy rainfall.

However, residents in mountainous areas should be alert to heavy rain and the possibility of flash floods.

As a result, the upper region of Thailand can face a tropical storm, and people residing in those areas have to be cautious of heavy downpours and strong winds over the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, travellers planning to go to the Philippines should be aware of tropical storm Janju moving towards the islands.

Gotta hand it to you Pussy, you got it right.

Around 12.30pm Sat 13 May, a very large storm struck the Pratu Nam, Din Daeng, Victory Monument areas (10-15mins from Nana/Sukumvit) of BKK. Lightning, wind, heavy rain for around an hour. No doubt the ferocity of it would have caused damage somewhere in LOS.

I was going to host a 'High Tea Party' at 12.47pm today, but luckily I had read your weather report last night and contacted the various officials of cancellation.

Barrafish.
