IT's a tragedy. Steve Irwin was a larger-than-life character who won fame by combining expert knowledge with entertaining presentation. He was a "cultural ambassador" for both Australia and sound wildlife policies.
I have a four-year-old niece who will be heart-broken. She loved his programs and even learned to say "Crikey."

Many shows he did to educate and entertain us all during these Sucky ol' geopolitical newsmedia times; @#%$ Al Quada, Bushki etc etc When no football was on, or no movies to watch, who did we tune into on the tele? not the news bs but it was Animal Planet and Ol' Stevy was there to give us a laughable scare ! showing us many nice scenery where he traveled to. You could always put your kids in front of the set with him on giving them a chuckle.
Heck Mates! you gotta relize, he did more good than harm; way more. He's an Aussy Legend now, and we should all drink to his remarkable life. Oi Oi Oi ! lets go catch us a croc ! you buggurs.

my wife loved the guy...she saw it on the news and said out loud "phlagaben" which I guess means stingray in thai.
I hate to say this but non-aussies know him more than the prime minister.
his job was extermely risky and it is not a total suprise (although tragic)....it has beensaid a million times I am sure...but at least he died what he loved doing.
I wonder if I go out at a boring sales conference people will say that about me 
sympathies to all the aussies and R.I.P steve!!!

A very sad day. Steve Irwin epitomized to the world the Australian can do spirit, daring, sense of humor, love of nature and everything outdoors. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Like him or not the world lost a man that only tried to do good. Thanks Steve for being you.
