I don't see what the issue is here. Have a look in Pattaya and tell me that all the foreigners running bars down there are owners. It is aimed at stopping foreign people working illegally. If you are serious about staying in Thailand for a long time get a different visa from an embassy overseas. If it cleans up Pattaya of some of the dregs that congregate down there..even if only for a few months then it will have served some purpose. Before anyone gets on to me. Yes, I know there are also many honest, respectable law-abiding falangs living in Pattaya. They will obviously have nothing to worry about, will they?

Good update here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=82975 Sunbelt has several clarifications in that thread, so scanning through the useless noise in that thread for Sunbelt's comments is worth it. According to Sunbelt Asia, China Sailor's golf schedule may get screwed up for a long time to come... - Balls

LY, Maybe you should read a little more carefully. I come on a visa exception on the 1st of September, I leave, that is one entry, I come on a visa exception on the 15th of September, I leave, that is a second entry, I come on a visa exception on the 1st of October, I leave, that is a third entry. Quote from the article: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In future, foreigners from those 41 countries will be able to stay in the country for 30 days from the first VOA stamp, which will be renewable twice at most, each time for a maximum of 30 days. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Note the term 'maximum of 30 days', that means that it does not matter if you stay one day or 30 days that is a strike against you. To read it otherwise would leave a massive loophole in the law in which you stay, lets say 3 weeks, do a visa run, stay 3 more weeks, do a visa run, etc. never staying for 30 days on one visa exception. I do not think that the Thai MFA is that stupid...

China Sailor, The Thaivisa thread I pointed to above appears to corroborate what you are saying, unfortunately. - Balls

It will be a mixed blessing for all those single guys who live here legally. Imagine all those lonley TG's sitting in their boyfriends/husbands/fiances condo's, or houses, while they (B/H/F's) have no choice but to sit in some other country twiddling their thumbs for 90 days at a time... If those same single guys plan it correctly they may never have to pay rent again in Thailand... Mmmmmm More work for TPE I guess... I am so glad I did not buy a condo for an "investment" The market will be flooded with empty places... This will have far reaching implications if it is enforced correctly... TPE II

Good thing I did not sign up for membership at Blue Canyon yet. Well I am over 50 so if I can find a trustworthy bank I can just park some company funds there. Or as CEO of my company I can grant myself a 'pension' of 65,000 Bt. However if the interst rate on a Fixed 'D' is better than Singapore parking money in LOS would be the best bet. I wonder if HSBC or DBS has a Thai operation...

The scarey part for those who have abused the system is it is implemented now, but screened backwards 6 months. So if you have done 3 visa runs in the last 6 months you will be denied entry. Looks like everyone needs to finally make a trip home to see the relatives and return on a long term visa. Will I see almost empty bars etc come october>?

whats up guys? ----------------------------------------------------------------------- TPE: I am so glad I did not buy a condo for an "investment" The market will be flooded with empty places... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- man....I emailed an old customer of mine from back when I sold condo's in BKK to ask if he would be in BKK when I am there in Nov. He emailed me back yesterday and said that he might be but was actually strongly considering selling his place as he was concerned with the political situation.... I felt kinda bad because when he was looking at condo's (the one I sold him was 18,000,000 baht off ekkamai in 2004)...he asked if I thought the government could ever effect his investment in a negative way....of course I played that possibility down with all my might to get him to buy...well it looks like his concern certainly might bite him in the ass....oops my bad (I am not insincere...loosing a few thousand quid would be peanuts to this guy) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- issan king: this thaksin (god as he see's himself) got a huge house in the better part of london easy 5 million pounds up and many flats and then he restricts us! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- less we forget about his plans to buy liverpool and fullerton football clubs...but how dare a british man want to open a restaurant in "his" kingdom... thaksin is a hypocrite of biblical proportions!!!!!!! atl

How so? By making a 3 million investment in a property, like a condo, you are eligible for a more flexible visa which allows you multiple entries and longer stays - at least that's what I thought I read earlier in this or a similar thread.
Quote: from Janitor on 9:08 am on Sep. 12, 2006 Or, just get a visa before you depart in your home country... The new ruling is only on VOA....
My point exactly, which plenty of Chicken Littles in this thread appear to overlook...

For my fellow 50+ brothers considering the retirement route HSBC Thailand has a 12 mo Fixed 'D' at 4.35% (500,000+ Thai Baht) and 4.50% for AUD. This is better than Standard and Chartered and much better than what HSBC Singapore is paying me...
