I just recently visited Oahu, HI, where the smoking bans are strongly enforced. The No Smoking It's Against the Law signs are everywhere. I'm a smoker and I found it very difficult to find a suitable spot to light one up. Occasionally, you find a spot on the street that would say Designated Smoking Section. Even at my hotel, which was humongous, I had to walk to the front of the hotel to the designated smoking spot. There are no smoking sections in restaurants or bars anywhere. Even at a crap hole trucker type diner, where you order your food at a window, there was a sign stating I had to be at least 40 feet away from the building. Not to mention, a pack of smokes are about $7 USD a pack. In than type of environment I would find it very easy to quit. I may have hated it, but the law would be very good for me.

One thing at a time, is the way you should see it - apart from that, the excuse of "but exhaust fumes are soooooo bad" is as old as smokers have been able to think of it.

I think you are trying to convey the message that smokers have used the excuse of exhaust fume poisoning as a counter argument to the ills of cigarette smoke.
Perhaps, in your wisdom, you could educate the group as to amounts of these poisonous gases released each day? I suggest cubic metres as the base for gigarette volume and perhaps cubic kilometres for the toxic gases released from automobles, home heating, electricity generation etc.
While you are at it,, why not help with "global warming" can you let us smokers know how much we contribute to that problem, compared to the burning of gas/petrol/diesel.
Could you also define the global harm of nuclear testing compaired to cigarette smoking on the non-smoking majority.
Not only is the air we breath polluted by car smog, not only is the entire environemnt affected by the radiation from nuclear testing but we also add in governments that add the toxic chemicals, Flouride and chlorine to our very drinking water.Our food is poisoned with chemicals, its nutrition robbed by artificial fertilisers but lets not worry about that,, lets follow the Imperial Duck.
Lets ignore all this and join Daffy,against the smokers.
People really need to get things into perspective.
