Maybe they were arguring over Thai language skills.
Chang Mai is nothing but trouble. The place is full of friggin foreigner retiree's. If I want to see that I my as well just stay in my mother country. Plus the traffic is worst than BKK. Bad air as well. Nice place to visit in the winter, but I would not want to live there.

Seems amusing to see Mel complaining about Aussie stereotypes, and then we end up with a thread like this that just illustrates those stereotypes beautifully.
Just for the record, all joking aside, I'm sure most Australians are pleasant, intelligent, and fun to get a long with fellows (I even met some of them around these parts, and even met some that belong to BTF), it just seems to me that (contrary to some people's objections), Thailand attracts some of the seedier, and bigger loser elements of that demographic (and, if I understand the CM reputation properly, this holds true even more so for Chiang Mai) - so we end up with the worst of the stereotypes usually being slam dunked right in our faces, when you're walking around Sukhumwit at night... (and again, as a disclaimer, I'm sure there are far more Aussies out at night that are not being noticed, and it's really the annoying, obnoxious ones that stand out and give the rest a bad name).

You're acting not only as if this is some kind of weird exception, but you're certainly making it sound that it's worth when farang kill farang, while Thai killing Thai, or Farang killing Thai is somewhat more permissible (or less horrid). You really need to clarify what you are saying, to prevent coming across as a total douchebag and racist.
