Looks like they did good to build a new airport. If Don Muang was still the main airport, no flights were possible by now....

Seems a lot of BGs are heading out of BKK to Pattaya - to where the money is.

Quite a few aren't too happy about that "... but no cu'tomer in BKK, have to go Pattaya little bit"

adults sell for these amounth and more
but according to this girl baby buffalo sell for 1000 (ugly and sick looking) to 3000 (healthy, nice fur and "narak mak mak")
Then if you take good care of them about 18/24 month later they can be sold...

I dont know much about buffalo raising but she is giving me a crash course and allready offered to take me go to Issan visit her farm LOL

We have mainly cows (about 80 head) but she does have a few Water buffalo-

The neighbor sold his herd for 400,000 he had about 35 in total -

10 were smallish or young-

I am told on good authority the going current rate is about 4000 for a baby-

But deals can be done -

Average adult ranges from 10,000 to 14,000 and in very good cases of animal about 15,000 to 18,000 (strong good breed)

But 3000 in poor issaan for a calf wouldnt be so special to hear off-

All I know is one nearly killed me -

And it was a calf who lost its mother and got very clingy to me and followed me (i was out walking) Its horns split my leg open - and another little friendly nudge nearly went into my spleen- but gashed my hand instead- The dog saved me by biting it a few times-

I made it to a hutt and had lost about a litre of blood - the Thais thought it was very funny-

I did the cow thing too..... got the 'herd' up to I think 11 or so..... then sold them all.... what a pain in the ass. The only thing that worked for me was building some ponds..... stocking them with fish... and that was it... no more money for that mess..... Hired a tractor to dig 2 ponds, roughly 150 feet by 50 feet...... The fish reproduce.... the family (all of them) pull fish out of th ere all the time and eat them...

DG: your selling figures are in line with the prices she told me, the 1000 baht price was for "a sick looking baby with only one eye and only a little greenish fur left" (it was a joke), the 3000 seem to be the average price she get...she must be a hard bargainer then...
She also said that once she tried to buy a cheap baby buffalo hoping to make it healthy again by taking good care of it, but she had to spend so much money on medecine (and time) that at the end it was not worth it...

She is one funny girl, sending me some text with just "MOOOOOH!!" in it from time to time today...LOL

Anyway, I ll keep you posted when I get my degree in buffalology, in the meanwhile she is a wild f*** and I enjoy her company a lot

Flood advances into Bangkok

Flood centre spokesman in a live NBT telecast noted:

Big picture: Water level at Chai Nat's Chao Phraya dam and Chulalongkorn sluice gate is lower. Soon the sluice gate can be opend to allow flood water to flow into Chao Phraya to ease flood level in Rangsit area.

Thon Buri side will see less water replenishment in two weeks.

Level of flood in Bangkok is higher today. Small vehicles can no longer navigate on Vibhavadi.

More and more areas in Thon Buri are flooded and see rising water.

Khlong Samwa and Nongchok residents are notified of evacuation advice.

Small nuclear reactor on Vibhavadi is safe as the facility is much higher than the road.

Again only the left most lane is allowed on the expressway. People staying up on expresway have now left.

Don Mueang tollway travellers can exit at Ratchada Rd as the last exit. Further up will see flooded road.

MWA has to reduce tap water production at Bang Khen due to flooded Khlong Prapa today. More chlorine is added to make sure the water is safe. If in doubt, boil the water.

Khlong Mahasawat plant on Thon Buri side has raised tap production to its usual level.

Big bags are now done for 4 km, 2 km more are to be finished and should be done by tomorrow or Friday.

=====

Hummmmm "Small nuclear reactor on Vibhavadi is safe as the facility is much higher than the road."

What???? Thailand has a nuclear reactor in BKK???

Passenger numbers dive at main airport
Published: 3/11/2011 at 12:00 AM
Source: Bangkokpost

The severe flooding coupled with foreign governments' advisories against travel to Thailand has begun to take its toll on passenger traffic through Suvarnabhumi airport.

Passenger numbers at Bangkok's main airport started to decline during the last week of October, falling by 7% year-on-year, and the decline is likely to become more pronounced as flooding problems intensify, scaring more international travellers away.

"The drop-off in passenger numbers started on Oct 25 after holding steady over the previous 24 days," said Somchai Sawasdeepon, a senior executive vice-president of Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT).

Before the deluge began affecting Bangkok, Suvarnabhumi was handling about 130,000 passengers on 800 flights per day.

Airline executives have also begun to see falling bookings and cancellations for travel to the country, where flooding is being perceived internationally as on the same scale as Hurricane Katrina that hit New Orleans in 2005, thereby fostering fear.

Several carriers have already slashed their frequencies through Bangkok, and further cutbacks are looming on the horizon.

Cathay Pacific has reportedly halved its Bangkok-Hong Kong service to two flights a day, while Orient Thai Airlines has suspended its daily flight on the same route covered by a Boeing 747 jumbo jet.

The moves come as more Hong Kong tourists cancel their journeys in the wake of their government raising its travel advisory bar for Thailand to "red".

"We are witnessing a virtual standstill of traffic from North and East Asia _ China, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong," Udom Tantiprasongchai, the founder of Orient Thai Airlines, which concentrates on that region, told the Bangkok Post.

The flag carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) is pondering a similar move, possibly cutting back service on some routes such as to Colombo and Hat Yai, said an airline official.

Suspension of the Bangkok-Athens route is also being considered, but that is due mostly to the economic crisis in Greece.

Mr Somchai of AoT conceded it would be difficult to woo back traffic.

"The message we're trying to put across is that not all of Thailand has been flooded. Tourists can still use Suvarnabhumi to hop over to their favourite destinations such as Phuket and Chiang Mai, which are flood-free," he said.

AoT is also trying to dispel the grave perceptions abroad that Suvarnabhumi is next in line to be flooded after Don Mueang airport was forced to close a week ago.

"We're highly confident that our flood protection will prevent any halt to the operation of Suvarnabhumi," said Mr Somchai.

He added that experts from Japan and Germany endorsed that statement after inspecting the flood protection barriers just days ago.
