Ok bros, it seems that I have to apologize for the "unfortunate" title of this thread but I'd lke to make clear that at no point I was or I am happy to see a country suffering and cruely take advatnge of the situation!
I'd like you to know that I am deeply involved with the people and economy of this country as executive of a main inbound tour operat: I am in the perfect position to understand and share the difficulties Thais are facing in these days....so far my company has been a unique case as we did not cut our staff!
The reason I started this thread was that I wanted to give a little push to win the fear for the SARS and see people coming to Thailand.......
I felt that since the main subject of this forum is PUSSY, I could have emphasize this matter rather than others.....
At the end remains the fact that I am still a "Virgin" among this community and I am tuning the nature of my intervents.....mainly reading and learning from the elder bros!

Back to SARS. When I got to bkk... NOTHING REALLY going on about SARS (May 31 2003). Crossing into Cambodia.... I had to fill out a health questionaire, and carry a paper with me with phone numbers etc... in case... Met a woman from Toronto that told me that Viet Nam would not let her in since she was from Toronto where SARS is a big going on. Then back into Thailand overland, More forms to fill out about SARS, and another paper with numbers etc... to contact. Leaving Thailand.... Same thing.... carrying a small yellow paper with info on it as to what to do....

My and my girl got to talking about this SARS business last night and the sorry state of tourism in the Kingdom in general right now. We can't figure it out. Sure, numbers are going to be down anyway because of low season, but the war/terrorism hysteria should be over by now and SARS is fading off the radar screen pretty fast.
Most people with half a brain are tuned into the fact that less than a dozen people to date have gotten sick from sharing air in an airplane and there hasn't been one of those in months now.
War or SARS shouldn't even affect the punters who tend to be risk takers anyway and you're no safer in the Philipines. So where the f*(k are all the punters?
Is the worldwide economic downturn really more profound than anybody thinks and travel numbers would have been hosed this year anyway?
Did the whole p4p scene just reach a critical level last year and this year is the predictable crash, like a big dieback in the animal kingdom?

Maybe it is because people book way in advance, so this summer would definately see a drop-off in tourists. Figure you can go to a 'safe' country or SE-Asia with SARS and you have to book in January, February or March. Hey there's a war going on and SARS.
So most people stay either at home or go someplace else. Guess the caribbean makes a killing this year.
For me, SARS and a war could not stop me from going to LOS.

What threat?
Every day there are more deaths caused by malaria and the common flu than the total number infected bij SARS. And while you can die from SARS it is no way as deadly as let's say Ebola.
Read this page for reference on how many (probably) have been infected and have died from it http://www.who.int/csr/sars/country/2003_06_17/en/ 8464 total infected and 799 died. The chance of recovery is about 90%.
Don't let the media scare you to death, hey that would be a new disease to write about  .
