I also believe that to be true. Cutting down teenagers, no matter how manical, can never be rationalized. Thailand's killing spree is front page news and that is where the terrorists revel in their glory. Revenge is part of the code, and there are a lot of soft targets in BKK and around LOS. This thing is just going to go away ala Bush and the boys. But they sure are going to have to have a lot of virgins in heaven to keep everybody content.

Ballsburstin, I have stayed in Suan Luang a number of times. That bloody mosque drove me around the bend! Bloody speakers at all hours. I wish I had some influence with the Royal Thai Navy and got them to hover a Harrier AV8A/B. That would have drowned the buggers out. I think the fundamentalists are the tail wagging the dog? I remember taking a boat trip from Krabi to Phang Na and visiting a floating Muslim village. Fine then but now? My contention When I saw that map I put my self in a mad-assed muslim mullahs shoes. If my agenda was separatism I'd think I want that junk of Thailand right up to where it narrows with Burma (Myanmar) and not just three states on the border with Malaysia. Annex it from Thailand and create a fundamentalist state. Radical and slap bang in the middle of Asia. Impossible task but a goal that a 'Mad Mullah' dreams and probably has orgasms about. Fundamentalism is a religion on the march. You can shoot a lot of indoctrinated kids but you cannot shoot an idea.

now thaksin has taken over responsibility again... his way of cleaning up the mess, convieniently distracting the media from his daughters Chula entry success... So, why not copy the successful policies of the Yanks and Israelis and persecute/prosecute the already downtroden by imposing martial law and indiscriminate detentions bashings kidnappings and mysterious disappearences... Worked elsewhere, hasnt it??

Crackdown may trigger terror attacks Govt seen making unwise decision Pradit Ruangdit : Bangkok Post 29 April 2004 Villagers living around Krue Se Mosque were moved away from the fighting and kept under watch. - Jetjaras Na Ranong The violent crackdown on southern militants could trigger terror attacks elsewhere in the country, observers say. A cabinet source who asked not to be named said yesterday's crackdown in which more than 100 people were killed was not an achievement but would probably compound the violence. The Muslim community and international human rights organisations would put pressure on the government, whose image in the world community would suffer. It would be grilled on its decision to kill 32 people in the Krue Se Mosque in Pattani. It would be asked why it did not surround the place and negotiate to solve the problem peacefully, and whether all the people killed were indeed terrorists as claimed. ''People will be more upset because no one can accept this action of the government,'' said the source. He expected it would be more difficult for Buddhists to stay in the three southernmost provinces of Yala, Narathiwat and Pattani, and more suicide attacks would take place because opponents had learned from yesterday's incident that they would die if they were arrested. It would be too late to implement the proposal by Deputy Prime Minister Chaturon Chaisaeng to solve southern violence peacefully. The incident showed that more than 100 teenagers were ready to die in clashes with the state, the minister said. ''Why were they ready to die in a confrontation with state officials? They used only knives for the fight. This means they were ready to die. This comes to the question why they were willing to die and what they decided to die for. How did such a movement develop? The government must answer these questions so that it can better understand the problems.'' Somboon Bualuang, former lecturer at the Prince of Songkhla University's Pattani campus, said the government still believed violence was the answer. The latest round of violence started with the Jan 4 arms robbery in Narathiwat. The stance would only fuel violent anti-government responses which resulted from the harsh way the state treated local people. ''This incident has done great damage to the nation. I doubt all were drug addicts as the prime minister claimed.'' Mr Somboon said police were wrong to fire rocket-propelled grenades into the mosque. ''Why didn't the government surround the place for two days and negotiate? A mosque is the heart of a Muslim community. How will they feel? I don't think it was a smart choice.'' The crackdown would only create hatred among local people, especially families of the young people who died. ''The incident should never have happened. The government is unaware of the likely long-term effects. It made the wrong decision,'' Mr Somboon said.
