However, those dates are in response to the "loses" the Americans calculated in bringing the war with Japan to an end by conventional means - rather than in retaliation.

Edit in: Here is a web site that lists all terrorist incidents from 1975 to 1991. Perhaps these don't count since they pre-date the Bush Administration?

I don't think so...while I don't have an in-depth knowledge of American history, I was of the belief that Truman laboured before giving the OK to drop the bomb. Of course, that could just be how history was written to say that...
Of course, lets not forget the focus of the attack on Pearl Harbour was at the fleet and its support. The attack on Japan was to press home the requirement for an unconditional surrender. America wanted occupation....among other things.

I think that HST was, indeed, a good man and I am sure he labored over the decision to drop the bomb. I would not have had such a problem.
The attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941 was what brought the US into the war against the Germans and the Japanese. The attack was a sneak attack, much as the 9/11 attack, and is still not fondly thought of in the US. Many people believe the Japanese got exactly what they bargained for and see the dropping of the bombs as retaliation for 7 December. I am one of those people.
Many people that hate GWB so much seem to forget that Germany never attacked the US, yet we declared war on them and helped in their defeat.
There would probably have been another incident that would have brought us into the war. The fact remains this is the one that did.
