To work in a gogo allows the girl to get maximum exposure to many, many guys. Lots of guys see her, talk to her, buy her drinks, etc. When this girl I know well, Dew, worked in a gogo, she could have a customer (i.e. money) every night that she worked. It's how she met me. Hanging at a FLer bar will not guarantee that.
There is also the concept in the girls mind that they are "working" if they work in a bar.
I know another girl who works as a FLer who has a job 4-6 hours during the day sewing specialty clothing. I KNOW this to be true, not bullshit. Then at night, she usually has a customer and gets paid 5 times what she earned that afternoon? Why does she keep the day job? Probably because it makes her heart happier to know that she has a real job.
Another girl I see occasionally comes by after her work in a bookkeeping office - makes 10K baht/month, 5 days/week, 9 hours/day. She is a wonderful screw, and she leaves my place with 2 days wages. why doesn't she quit the bookkeeping job and just screw guys for money? Probably because it makes her heart happier to know that she has a real job.
In some strange way, perhaps the gogo girls feel the same way about their place of employment.
Just two weeks ago, I took a girl from a NEP gogo bar. it was the first time I had taken her, although I previously had her number. Three months ago, I fell in love with her after she had been barfined and was sitting with some guy, so I paid the waitress to go get her phone number for me. Anyway, took her to GLOW, met up with TU, BK and a number of other BTFers. Had a great time, she was so cute and a lot of fun in and out of the sack, she didn't "short-time" me. She's a keeper.
I personally do not find that gogo girls have changed into wanting ST any more than they did 3 years ago. I cannot comment on 10 years ago, though.

CG - Well said! As many of us already know, money is not everything. Why should it be different for Thais? Having/keeping self-respect (even if you are deluding yourself) can be just as or even more important.

How?
All of his examples are of women who sleep with men for money - for payment.
Why do some retain their lowly paid "real" jobs? Hmnnnn..maybe a little thing called "face" and reputation, social pressure... ever heard of a cover story, an alibi?

Back to the original question - how much of Stickie's report rings true with current residents ?
I agree with CG on Stick's demise as an observational reporter, but as a Patty resident I'd also agree with much of what Stick said in his column about the town.
Prices are up and girls are less needy because of the salaries on offer from the bars. The accents heard on the streets are more often eastern bloc than east end.
But its not all doom and gloom. Pattaya is still a big time place if you're a monger. Samui has exploded over the last 7 years as a venue for adult minded entertainment, and Phuket has already recovered and no doubt will continue to grow. There are those who suggest that Ukraine and Shanghai are now superior alternatives to LOS - I haven't been to either, but they'd have to be beyond belief to better than what is still on offer in Thailand's best cities.

I do business in Shanghai every year. THere is NO way you can compare Shanghai to BK or Pattaya. For one, it is much more expensive. $120 Short time for anyone remotely hot. And the sex is usually very methodical and business like.
90% Freelancers English in Shanghai revolves around 10 phrases (Sexy, We go, 100 dollars, etc). Plus Thai women are universally better looking. The only plus in Shanghai is they seek you out fairly quickly and they are not that many punters.
And whore mongering is done out in Public in BK, whereas in China its still frowned upon and must be done discretely.

But universally, if you as a man is a "tight wad" and always count your pennies, then the people surrounding you, TG's included but not limited, will also behave to you as you are behaving to them; ie. money centered and penny pinching. If you are generous, good hearted ( does not = foolish), then most people surrounding you will also show their best sides; ie. good hearted to you and money is not everything. Notice I say "most people" and not everyone. There will always be exceptions, but if you have met no one but money hungry, greedy bad bitches in all your 17 trips (hundreds of TG's?) and one marraige to Thai girls, perhaps you may want to re-examine how you have treated them for you to have to run into such "bad luck"?

Having read this thread and opinions herein, I thought it is time for a reality check...
In regard to the Thai/Farang relationship the only valid observations is that of the Thai and the Farangs opinion does not mean squat.
