If PAD thugs roam the secure areas of the airport anyway they want, think of all the things that they must be stealing from luggage and cargo areas.
It will take a while reuniting luggage with all those passengers that were already past emigration, and waiting to board when then the airport was closed.

I wish the Thai media would call a hand grenade a bloody handgrenade instead of a bomb. And what the hell do they mean with headlines like "4 bomb attacks rock Bangkok" No they didn't. Were you rocked ? A couple of poxy grenades went off in a couple of specific areas and made a loud noise (to the people around them) and caused some injuries.
They've been watching too many Thai soaps, drama queens.
Still no Thai coverage of the Thai Motorbike taxi begging for his life with a machete to his throat in the middle of Rangsit rd.

Thanks for that copy from "Thai Airways Clarifies Situation" link. I have been clicking on that link on their website and it doesn't work. Nothing works on that site now actually.
I wonder. This massive protest by PAD conducted so successfully for well over 2 years now (?) must be costing a lo-o-o-t of money. Organising such big mobs over and over and over again to choke streets, squares and now the airports, braving the risk of canings, tear gas and bullets..... I can't imagine ordinary people dishevelling their everyday lives to do this voluntarily. Not for long. The PAD campaign seems very well "organised." Very massively funded.

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Anti-government protesters tightened their grip over Bangkok's international airport on Wednesday, causing chaos in the terminal and triggering speculation of imminent intervention by the military.
Army chief Anupong Paochinda will hold a news conference at 3 p.m. (3 a.m. EST) after meeting security officials and business leaders to discuss the protests by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), a spokesman said.
Anupong has insisted many times he will not launch a coup only two years after the military's removal of Thaksin Shinawatra as prime minister, although he has publicly pressed Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat to stand down.
After masked PAD members broke into the control tower at Bangkok's $4 billion Suvarnabhumi airport, the latest twist in their seizure of the site, a rival pro-government group urged its people to hit the streets, raising the prospect of clashes.
"What they have done are terrorist acts," Jatuporn Prompan, a ruling party politician and leader of the anti-PAD Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship, told a news conference.

I've always wondered why the PAD rally was televised live? Aren't they considered a threat to the current government?? Great viewing up till now for the insomiacs to fall asleep too

I wonder also whether the seizure of the Suvarnabhoomi airport was ALLOWED to happen. The new airport, unlike the old DonMuang layout, is not easily accessible from any main road. There is a many-miles-long expressway that leads to and from it and, to my knowledge, limited as it is, there is no other access to the airport. It is actually quite safely tucked away from the hoi polloi.
So I imagine they would have needed scores of truckloads to transport what must have been hundreds upon hundreds of protesters across this expressway to the airport. Since talk of seizing the airport had anyway been in the air for months surely the authorities would have kept an eagle eye on its vital installations ?

PAD to a very great extent draws its support from the urban middle class,and in particular from the middle class residents of Bangkok.They have the money and leisure seemingly to demonstrate endlessly,at least in Bangkok.There have been very few demonstrations outside Bangkok.The urban middle class resents the increased spending by the previous TRT government,and the present government(TRT by another name),to assist the rural poor and those who farm or otherwise depend on the land,and who make up the majority of the population.This majority was neglected by previous governments which were dominated by,and largely served the interests of,the urban middle class.TRT,and the present government,crafted their policies to appeal to the neglected majority, and were rewarded by 3 clear cut election victories.Yes TRT under Taksin was corrupt and dictaorial,but it substantially delivered on its promises to those who had elected it.Yes it could probably be argued that much of the money spent by TRT was wasted,or could have been better directed,but the Thai electorate returned TRT and its present clone to government.It is highly likely that if PAD was successful in topling the present government it would result only in the return of TRT(or whatever name it called itself) at the next elections.Unfortunately the increasingly violent actions of PAD are causing the government`s supporters to resort to violence which is opening up worrying divisions in Thai society.If violence continues to escalate, as it could well do because the military refuse to assist,and the police seem incapable of restoring order,civil war is a possibility.It is time for his majesty to speak up.

(BangkokPost.com) About 30 People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) guards wearing masks on Wednesday took control of Suvarnabhumi airport’s air traffic control tower to check the daily flight schedule.
PAD security head Samdin Lertbutr together with a group of guards entered the air traffic control tower and negotiated with the airport officials. The group said they wanted to make sure that no flights will leave or enter Suvarnabhumi while checking whether Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat’s flight would arrive at the airport.
Initially, airport officials permitted five of the guards to enter the tower, but the guards later requested the officials to let all of them go through to prevent the police from using the tower as a command centre against them.

No planes out of Suvarnabhumi Airport

Airport authorities closed down Suvarnabhumi airport on Tuesday night as the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) fought with taxi drivers in another step in attempting to topple the government.
Protesters - some masked, some armed with metal rods - broke through police lines and flowed into the busy terminal, disrupting airport operations, in an attempt to stop Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat from returning to the country.
PAD demonstrators used cars and trucks to block the only highway with access to the airport.
Acting Airports of Thailand (AoT) president and Acting Suvarnabhumi Airport Director Serirat Prasutanont announced shortly after 9pm that the airport cancelled all departing flights.
For the time being incoming flights are still arriving, but airport operations have been greatly disrupted.
PAD leader Sondhi Limthongkul announced at the anti-government stage at Government House that Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat must resign without any condition to pay for its guilt in the Oct 7 violence which killed on demonstrator and injured more than 400 people at parliament.
