Bros,
Just made my third flight from the new airport. Love it. Easy, quick, lotsa signs, toilets, shops. Quick with immigration and the bags.

Maybe they've fixed the problems, faster than some other newly opened airports.

I did an into BKK ten days back and an out and an in over the last week. The reentry permits are behind row L.
Duty free prices are pretty much the same for cigars, liquor and perfumes. There are duty free on entry for that tequila for the room just before the immigration.

Easiest airport that I've been thru. I am based in Singapore, Changi is fine too but ya gotta be thinking of that Thai pussy as you are going into BKK!!!

Report from The Nation dated Tuesday 7 November 2006 :-

More toilets for disabled sought at new airport
===================================

Leading proponents of equal rights for disabled people will meet with the engineer in charge of constructing 200 new toilets at Suvarnabhumi International Airport today in the hope of securing more toilets adapted for the disabled.

Topong Kulkhanchit, regional development officer for Disabled People International, said he received a phone call yesterday from the engineer, some two weeks after the junta-appointed government reprimanded the Airport Organisation of Thailand (AOT) for providing inadequate toilets for passengers at the new state-of-the-art airport.

"If they don't do it properly this time, they will be ruined. The airport management are really lousy," Topong told The Nation yesterday.

While the number of extra toilets provided for disabled people will be up for discussion, Topong said the much-touted new airport has failed miserably when it comes to providing equal access for the physically challenged.

Topong pointed out that elevators have practically no Braille signs to help the blind navigate, many signs have sharp edges which are a hazard to the visually impaired, and interior colour schemes are mostly monotone, making it difficult for a person with poor eyesight to navigate. The stand-alone air conditioners also unnecessarily obstruct blind people and there are many other ground and overhead obstacles.

"They don't care about us. Perhaps at the lower level [the AOT] do care - but not the executives," said Topong, who is suing the AOT and former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, along with a few others, at the Administrative Court for failing to provide necessary access to the disabled as required by law.

Topong, himself dependent on a wheelchair, said some ramps at the departure terminal hall are very slippery and dangerous for the elderly and pregnant women.

Huh? I thought the airport had this state of the art integrated swamp cooling system, and now we find out they have stand-alone air conditioners standing around...?

To be honest, though - considering how long that airport had been in planning, design and construction, there is absolutely NO excuse to have neglected the handicapped access systems. Interesting how this keeps limping along - though at least if you're able bodied, it seems to be working fine.

I'll find out next week

I also noticed that several areas that seem to be joined together and maybe completed by different contractors/work parties are not level. with the worst I noticed about 25 mm difference n level.

Tho this seems to be a regular "mistake" in buildings. I've also seem it on BTS, in Central Chitlom, Emporium. It seems that floors are never level.
The worst I have seen is moving from Asok BTS to Suk MRT there is about a 50 - 75 mm step that last time I used it had been painted yellow/black.

How are these glaring errors allowed to get through QA. OOPS I know the answer to that question (I think).

Not trying to start any argument, MHO, the new airport get a C rating at the best.

It's tooooooo long but does have lots of moving sidewalks. If they break down it's bad news.

Very little seating outside the gate areas. This sucks !!! It's the worst I've seen any place.

Processing in and out was good. BUT the walk to my departure gate last night was really hard on my old knees.

Only one hotel close to the airport and it's too expensive for most of us.

The windows, which make up the majority of the exterior structure are filty and stained. What a black eye.

Just call me Doom & Gloom if you want but this is my HO

Thanks

Just poor use of terminology

The correct term would be Low Velocity Displacement Vent Terminal Units and many variations thereof.

After the golf fiasco I am back on fire.

I stand corrected, and in awe of the amazing display of planning and technologicalistic innovationtiveness.

My rating for the new airport, a more detailed report

Arrival was good. If it wasn't for the moving sidewalks I would have died, man we covered some distance getting to Immigations. The first hall was closed, that threw a few people off, I had alread read of multiple immigation halls and found the next one just a few hundred meters down the walk way. Immigations was swift, finding our baggage carousel was a hassle, the number wasn't advertised on the plane. The information boards in the baggare clain area are spread out, it took a minute to find one. My baggage arrived fine.

On the arrival level there were no taxis, just a bunch of blood sucking limo touts wanting 900 to 1200 Bt to town, lol lol no way. No Directions to public Taxi's, thank goodness I had read about how to find them. I went down one level and all the cabs in BKK were there. I went to the far left which seemed to be the quicker station, the one to the far right looked to have a few hundred people waiting. I had to wait about 20 minutes to get a metered cab to town.

I went to Suk soi 33, it was 200 bt on the meter + 50bt airport fee + 65bt for expresswa fees (close to this amount). I tipped the guy 50 bt.

Airport ratings

Arrival gate to immigations, thank goodness for the moving sidewalks. -A

Immigations A

Bakggage claim B (the information boards are spread out)

Taxis D+, no directions to the stands and very long lines.

Departed a few days later. Drop off was good, I liked the fact they had baggage dollies at the outside traffic islands. A

Check in at BKK air was quick and professional A

Departure tax B ( it's a frigging tax )

Departure immigrations was fairly fast -A

The departure area has a ton of shops but NO seating. I walked for ever to get to my gate and saw one set of 4 sets. Other than that you had to sit in a bar or resturants. D

Only the Thai Air lounges are wll marked and directions were lacking. I was looking for the Bangkok Air Business traveler lounge which wasn't marked at all. D Email sent to Bangkok Air.

Waiting gate area. Fairly nice but the windows which make up 99% of the exterior are filty and stained. Someone forgot window cleaning is an essential part of up keep and maintenance D

We had to ride a shuttle busses to out plane. The Business class bus was nice a cumfy for those of us who had seats, 4 people had to stand for about 20 minutes D

Flight departure was deplayed almost 45 minutes, not weather related as it was clear D

Only one hotlel close to the new airport and it's expensive D

What more can I say C is the best I can do. Oh if you disagee, fine, you have the rights to your opinion just as I have mine and mine are not going to change.
