Greetings: Everyone can make up their own mind about SARS. I have talked with many of my relatives in Hong Kong and Singapore and they are definitely worried about it. They all wear masks and they basically stay at home and don't go out except for work. They basically say that is sucks, especially in Hong Kong. I will go on record as saying I postponed my trip to bKK because of the SARS epidemic. No. I'm not paranoid, but until they have some sense of a clue on how it's spread and what test can be done to determine if a person's got it I did not think that BKK was that important for me to risk being exposed. I was to stop over in Taiwan for 4 hours by the way. And I was not worried about being exposed in Thailand, but more on the airplane and in the airport at Taipei. Now .. a family friend canceled a trip to Hawaii. I thought that was extreme because they did not want to be exposed to SARS!! But, to each his own.

Hi ABC, Fair enough. Everyone has the right to an opinion and should make decisions they see fit. But i want to know how stringent this rule of wearing the freaking mask is being laid out in Thailand by the Govt if you come from infected countries ? I for one do not think its necessary. But i do not want to spoil my holidays by being stopped at the airport. So, if anyone that have travelled from Singapore or any of those infected countries, let me know the real situation. cheers to all....

goober: From what I've been told, they will make you wear one in the airport, but I'm sure as soon as you in the cab you can take it off. And without a doubt there is no way they can track if you are wearing it or not. ha ha ha!! But, I have not traveled from any of the infected countries into bkk. Okay. I would've had I gone through Taiwan like my flight was originally schedule to!! If you don't think it's a big deal to wear one, then again, only wear one on the plane as you land and when you get off the plane.

Hi chaps, after 6 years in Europe just arrived Beijing/China a week ago to live and work here for the next couple of years. had to find that of course the chinese gvt. played down the SARS affair - even in Peking it is wider spread than they will ever admit. Now what about the flight ticket I have in my pocket and the appointment with ma "old" lady in BGK for next Thursday ? After what I read in this thread (THANKS bkkz - this is the only way to get a realistic picture!) I think I will go for it, fly in from Beijing by Thai Air, do the screening and take a mask at the airport, meet my GF and go to the booked hotel. There of course they will know from the check-in form + passport where i come from - will they not ? ÝWell, if they dither, I keep the mask on and stay in the room, send my GF to get some more company from time to time and enjoy anyway - as i understand there would be no higher risk in it than that, right ? Unless they find me to have more than 38 degrees C of course, which would mean quarantine. but as I will be allright as for that fever, it's a deal, is it not ? What do you guys think ?

From what I have heard the mask business is not enforced - yes, you will be checked over at the airport, temperature taken, Ýand asked to wear a mask there but after that it's probably up to you - given that 1000s of Chinese tourists visited Thailand between November and March (many from Guangdong Province where the outbreak is most serious) the probabilities must be that some had been exposed or even infected - why so few confirmed cases in Thailand? By the way, big drop in today's confirmed cases in HK - still mainly medical workers in hospitals and residents of a couple of infection hot-spots.

guys all you want to know is here or just keep in your mind that only in HK & Guangdong IMO is the risks greater than that of getting on the plane & going into town in a taxi combined ) Yes I think it's a way overrated sars scare, but each & everyone gotta make up their own minds...

SARS, bleh! The chances are so slim compared to so many other ways you can die. Even in a worst-case-senario with you catching it, you only have a roughly 5% chance of death. Many other diseases are far more deadly. As for the Thai restrictions on visitors, I'd be curious if Peter would be so kind as to keep the rest of us informed about what happens to him once he gets to BKK. Thanks-in-advance, Pete.

Certainly, PopSecret, will be happy to let know all of you what it is like. Had my flight reconfirmed yesterday and take a go next Thursday (girl at THAI AIR office here in Peking said it would take me just a 15 minute max. Doctor's check ...). Scheduled to be back Monday 21st and will report then - if I am still alive to tell the tale ... haha
