And in keeping with the Aussie tradition of "taking the piss" or perhaps laughing in the face of adversity the jokes about Irwin's death are already circulating (not bad its now less than 22 hours since his death).
I lay no claim to these other than to repeat what I have heard. I doubt the mad-brave bastard would take offence, certainly none is intended. Enjoy.
1. He should have remembered to wear sun-block, that would have kept out the harmful rays.
2. Not the first Aussie bloke fatally thats resulted from chasing a set of flaps that smell like fish.

I just read a report by a "sting ray expert" his take on the subject, dying from a sting ray attack has about the same odds as being hit by a meteor.
I always felt Steve was a bit too crazy and tempted fate too often.
The feeding shows where he would stay just inches away from a charging hungry crock always made me tense up. Just one slip, one little trip, one mishap and he could of been breakfast at the crock.
Wishing the best for his family, I do hope he owned the rights to his shows, that will help tide them over.

According to what I read, 1500 people where stung by stingray last year and 3 died. I think getting hit by a meteor is a bit more rare than that.
But most people get stung by stingrays because they step on them (stingrays like to bury themselves in the sand) and they get stung in the leg or foot.
Irwin was deliberately (not accidentally) swimming with the stingray (I assume right on top of it) and that is how he was stung in his heart. Not too many people try swimming right on top of a stingray, so not too many others (maybe none others) have been stung in the heart. Perhaps getting stung in the heart by a stingray is about the same odds as getting hit by a meteor, but I don't think Irwin’s case was a "random" event that you calculate odds for.
