Report from Bangkok Post dated Sunday 16 May 2010 :-

Curfew expected in Bangkok today
=====================

The government is considering imposing a curfew in certain parts of the capital and is asking red shirt protesters to leave Ratchaprasong by 3pm tomorrow.

The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) is expected to announce the imposition of a curfew in certain parts of Bangkok late Sunday afternoon.

CRES spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said in a national broadcast that police had been assigned to work out which roads and areas of the capital would be subject to the curfew. The police plan will be submitted to the CRES late Sunday afternoon for a final decision, he said.

The curfew will enable troops to deal more effectively with rioters who have been battling with troops and causing trouble in areas around the red shirts’ Ratchaprasong protest site, including Bon Kai, Ratchaprarop, Din Daeng, Sala Daeng and Din Daeng since Friday.

Col Sansern explained that the imposition of a curfew means that people would not be allowed in those specific areas or roads during the hours of curfew.

The CRES has also set a 3pm, Monday, deadline for red shirt protesters at the Ratchaprasong intersection to leave the protest site. Col Sansern said police, accompanied by the media, would try to enter the site to encourage protesters, particularly women, children and the elderly, to leave. He said that those who agree to leave by the deadline would not face charges, and those already facing charges would be given special treatment. However, he stopped short of saying what actions would be taken against those who refuse to leave, or whether force would be forced to end the protest.

The colonel went on to say that ''terrorist elements'' had tried to sow confusion and misunderstanding between the police and army by shooting at them.

Don't look for sympathy..
Hey, come on, I wasn't... I was merely giving an account of what happened to me... and to warn others. Yep, I was an idiot - couldn't agree more - but looking for sympathy - no way. I am just as sad as anyone with what is happening and angry that the Red Shirts try and profile themselves through the overseas media as peacefull demonstrators, when quite clearly they are anything but.

Protesters asked to leave rally site
=====================

The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) has authorised police to co-ordinate with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, the Red Cross and non-governmental organisations to send a team to the rally site to urge children, women and the elderly to leave the Ratchaprasong area, a CRES spokesman said on Sunday.

“The CRES will help those who want to leave the Ratchaprasong intersection rally site and will also help them return back to their homes after being moved to the 11th Infantry Regiment base in Bang Khen district.''

The CRES spokesman said attempts to urge red shirt protesters to leave their rally site will start now and continue until 3pm on Monday.

He also asked for the cooperation of the media to help publicise the attempt to avoid casualties and to witness the operation.

He also said that the police will submit key areas and main roads in Bangkok that need to have a curfew placed on them to the CRES, at about 2pm today.

From The Nation (May 16th, 2010)
CRES cancels plan to impose curfew in Bangkok

The Centre for Resolution of Emergency Situation has cancelled its plan to impose curfew in Bangkok.

The CRES reasoned that security forces could be still in control of the situation so it would not impose curfew to avoid further affecting the people's life.

Mob Rules ! by Black Sabbath

Close the city and tell the people that something's coming to call
Death and darkness are rushing forward to take a bite from the wall, oh

You've nothing to say
They're breaking away
If you listen to fools...
The Mob Rules
The Mob Rules

Kill the spirit and you'll be blinded, the end is always the same
Play with fire, you burn your fingers and lose your hold of the flame, oh

It's over, it's done
the end is begun
If you listen to fools...
The Mob Rules

You've nothing to say
Oh, They're breaking away
If you listen to fools...

Break the circle and stop the movement, the wheel is thrown to the ground
Just remember it might start rolling and take you right back around

You're all fools!
The Mob Rules!

.... martial law is unlikely to be imposed as the Thai army doesn't want more red shirt "martyrs.

You could as well say any of the following:

"... martial law is unlikely to be imposed as the Thai government doesn't want more red shirt "martyrs"."

or

"... martial law is unlikely to be imposed as Abhisit doesn't want more red shirt "martyrs"."

which would still make as much sense as:

"... martial law is unlikely to be imposed as the Thai army doesn't want more soldiers dying"

or

"... martial law is unlikely to be imposed as Abhisit doesn't want to go visit his mother in law."

All of those could be plausible as to the wishes, likes or dislikes but not in regards to the reasons as there is not automatic direct correlation between the two, like "each 12 hours of curfew will likely increase the "red-martyrs" headcount by four, compared to an increase of only two without the curfew".

You are simply speculating... and without making much sense.

For those who instead of speculative dribble prefer factual information with good local insight I suggest Magnum's post here: http://bkkx.com/cgi-bin/forum/topic.cgi?forum=5&topic=604&start=10
